South Korean tobacco company KT&G is preparing to launch a new heated tobacco device, lil Tonino Lamborghini, in Seoul on September 15, 2026. According to reports from Korean financial media, including NewsPim, the device introduces a new heating platform called Flashwave Heating, which KT&G says can bring the device to operating temperature in approximately three seconds.
The launch will also introduce a new dedicated tobacco-stick brand called NAU. Unlike existing lil sticks, NAU sticks will not be compatible with the new device, making lil Tonino Lamborghini part of a separate hardware-and-consumable ecosystem rather than simply another model in the existing lil lineup.
The product represents KT&G’s first major new heated tobacco platform in South Korea since the launch of lil AIBLE in 2022, according to local media reports.
Flashwave Heating Uses Internal Microwave Heating
The most notable technical feature of lil Tonino Lamborghini is KT&G’s new Flashwave Heating system. For readers comparing different technologies, our guide to heated tobacco devices explains how modern systems differ in heating method, design, and user experience.
According to the company, the technology uses microwave energy to heat the tobacco stick from the inside rather than relying on a conventional external heating element or direct-contact heating structure.
KT&G claims the system requires approximately three seconds of preheating, which it says is more than five times faster than its previous products and makes the device its fastest-heating heated tobacco product currently introduced in South Korea.
The three-second figure is a manufacturer-provided performance claim, however, rather than an independently verified measurement. KT&G has also noted that actual heating time can vary depending on conditions such as humidity.
At the time of reporting, KT&G had not publicly disclosed more detailed technical information about Flashwave Heating, including its operating frequency, power output, or the precise internal structure used to deliver microwave energy to the tobacco stick.

New NAU Tobacco Sticks Create a Separate Consumable System
The new device is being launched alongside a dedicated tobacco-stick platform called NAU.
Five NAU variants are planned for the initial launch:
- NAU Rust
- NAU Blue
- NAU Change
- NAU Yellow
- NAU Coral
Local reports suggest that the name “NAU” is intended to echo the English word “now,” reinforcing the product’s emphasis on reducing waiting time through its rapid-heating technology.
More importantly for existing lil users, NAU sticks cannot be used with current lil devices, while existing lil sticks are not designed for the new platform.
That makes this launch more significant than a routine hardware refresh. KT&G is introducing a new heating system, a new device and a new consumable range at the same time.
KT&G had not disclosed complete information about NAU pricing, nicotine specifications, or the detailed flavor characteristics of all five variants at the time of reporting.
Premium Aluminum Design With Tonino Lamborghini Branding
The product name also highlights its partnership with the Italian lifestyle brand Tonino Lamborghini.
lil Tonino Lamborghini features a full-metal aluminum body, giving the device a more premium positioning than a basic heated tobacco product. It also incorporates a color display and a dedicated graphical user interface.
The screen is designed to provide practical information such as the current heating status, remaining battery level and estimated remaining sessions.
Four exterior finishes are planned for launch:
- Carbon Gray
- Copper Brown
- Wave Blue
- Ruby Black SV
The Ruby Black SV version will be offered as a limited edition.
This is not the first collaboration between KT&G and Tonino Lamborghini. Korean media reports indicate that the two companies previously worked together on a cigarette product in 2012. The new collaboration extends that relationship into the heated tobacco category, combining KT&G’s heating technology with a premium lifestyle-oriented brand identity.
Seoul Launch Planned for September 15
KT&G plans to officially launch lil Tonino Lamborghini in Seoul on September 15, 2026.
The Carbon Gray version is expected to be available through approximately 8,300 convenience stores across Seoul. Consumers will also be able to purchase the device through KT&G’s lil Store and three lil MINIMALIUM locations.
It has not yet been confirmed when the device will expand beyond Seoul to other parts of South Korea.
Pricing also remains subject to official confirmation. KT&G’s public information had not established a final recommended retail price when the reports were published. Korean industry reports have suggested a launch price in the upper 100,000-won range, while promotional pricing could potentially reduce the consumer purchase price to around 40,000 won during the initial launch period.
Because these figures have not been formally confirmed by KT&G, they should be treated as reported market information rather than the company’s final retail pricing.
More Than a New Design: A New Product Platform
The significance of lil Tonino Lamborghini lies less in its luxury branding alone and more in the combination of several new elements.
KT&G is effectively introducing:
Flashwave Heating technology + a new hardware platform + dedicated NAU tobacco sticks + Tonino Lamborghini design.
That is a substantially different strategy from simply adding a new color or launching a limited-edition exterior for an existing lil device.
The decision to make NAU incompatible with existing lil sticks also creates an important distinction for consumers. Current lil users who want to move to the new platform will need to adopt the new tobacco-stick system as well.
From a business perspective, this means KT&G will need to establish distribution and consumer awareness for both the new device and NAU consumables.
What to Watch After Launch
The September 15 launch should provide more information about how KT&G’s new platform performs in the real market.
Three factors will be particularly important:
First, real-world heating performance. KT&G’s approximately three-second figure is a major selling point, but actual user experience will depend on operating conditions and the consistency of the heating process.
Second, NAU pricing and availability. Because the new sticks are not compatible with existing lil products, their price and retail coverage could have a direct impact on adoption.
Third, expansion beyond Seoul. A successful rollout would likely depend on how quickly KT&G expands distribution to other Korean markets.
For now, lil Tonino Lamborghini represents a significant new direction for KT&G’s heated tobacco business in South Korea. The combination of microwave-based internal heating, rapid claimed preheating, a new dedicated tobacco-stick platform and Tonino Lamborghini branding gives the product a distinct identity.
Once the device reaches stores on September 15, its final retail price, NAU pricing, nationwide distribution plans and real-world performance will provide a clearer picture of whether KT&G’s new platform can establish itself alongside the company’s existing heated tobacco products.
