In the red ocean of the smartphone market, models priced in the thousand-yuan range have always played the role of the “silent majority”. They rarely appear in the headlines of technology media, but they support the digital life of China’s largest consumer group. Now OPPO has launched a new phone OPPO K12s in the thousand-yuan range, focusing on solving the pain point of battery life. The phone is equipped with a 7000mAh large battery, which is not only the model with the largest battery capacity in OPPO’s history, but also the model with the largest battery in the same price range.
Just looking at the number of 7000mAh, one can feel a full sense of security in terms of battery life. Heavy users can use it for a whole day without any pressure. Delivery guys and couriers don’t have to carry power banks around, and student users can study with peace of mind in the classroom. Moreover, OPPO K12s supports 80W fast charging, so they can quickly replenish energy after returning home.
This time, OPPO K12s not only claims battery capacity, but also battery life. OPPO promises that K12s have a five-year lifespan. After 1,800 cycles, the battery capacity can still be maintained at more than 80%. Calculated as one charge a day, 1,800 cycles means that the mobile phone battery can last for 5 years. In comparison, the current industry battery life generally takes 1,600 cycles as the baseline, which means that the battery life of competing products of the same level is usually only about 4 years.
In addition to long battery life, another highlight of the OPPO K12s is its smoothness. The phone is equipped with the fourth-generation Snapdragon 6 chip. This processor is built based on TSMC’s 4nm process and supports INT4 format. It can run various AI applications and related codes like a flagship chip. It is the most powerful Snapdragon 6 series chip in Qualcomm’s history.
At the same time, OPPO K12s has passed the first five-star Tel five-year smooth and non-stuttering certification, and is equipped with up to 12GB of large memory. Application switching is smooth, and no reloading is required. It also has a 5700mm² VC cooling system. OPPO K12s can easily handle medium and high load scenarios, such as “Honor of Kings” 90 frames HD mode.
In addition, the OPPO K12s is also equipped with 512GB of storage, so even if you take 100,000 photos, the phone can hold them all.
As a thousand-yuan phone, OPPO K12s also uses a 120Hz OLED eye-protection straight screen, is equipped with stereo dual speakers, and has 300% super volume, so elders don’t have to worry about volume issues when using it. It supports IP65 dust and water resistance, and can withstand small accidents such as splashing water in life.
Finally, the system. OPPO K12s comes with the highly acclaimed ColorOS 15. This system has earned the reputation of “Dove in the mobile phone circle” for its silky smoothness.
Design
The OPPO K12s is equipped with a 6.67-inch OLED screen. Although the bottom bezel is slightly thicker due to cost control, as a thousand-yuan model with long battery life, its core target user group is more concerned about battery life rather than the ultimate visual experience.
Consumers who focus on pragmatism don’t pay too much attention to the appearance of the mobile phone. As long as the battery is large and the battery life is long, that’s enough.
The back of the K12’s phone adopts a matte texture design, which makes not difficult to get fingerprints. The back panel introduces a fragmented cyber design, which adds a unique sense of luxury to the appearance of the phone through a variety of irregular fragmented patterns.
This design is very clever. It is almost inconspicuous when looking at the phone directly. Its unique fragmented pattern will only be revealed when viewed from different angles. It not only avoids the plastic feel, breaks the monotony and dullness of traditional mobile phone design, but also makes the phone more visually attractive and recognizable.
The lens Deco part is different from the left-aligned vertical arrangement of the other two models in the K12 series. Instead, through a novel hierarchical layout, two lenses, a flash, and a waterproof pressure relief valve are cleverly placed in a rectangular module.
The edges of the Deco portion of the lens are metal-rimmed to help protect the lens from wear and tear. The power button and volume button of the OPPO K12s are both located on the right side of the body.
The top of the phone is equipped with a noise-cancelling microphone, an infrared remote control sensor and a secondary speaker opening, forming a stereo field with the speaker at the bottom.
The bottom is equipped with a SIM card slot, a microphone, a Type-C interface, and a speaker opening. Inside the packaging of the OPPO K12s, an 80W SUPERVOOC super flash charging kit is randomly included.
Battery
OPPO K12s has the largest 7000mAh battery in OPPO’s history, taking the lead in the battery life arms race
Friendly competitors have directly raised the battery life standard for popular thousand-yuan mobile phones, and can be called the “battery life overlord” among thousand-yuan phones.
Not only does it have excellent power efficiency, but it also promises an ultra-long lifespan of five years. After five years of use, the battery capacity can still be maintained at more than 80%. Compared with the four-year battery life of most competing products, OPPO K12s truly achieves a new level of durability and longevity.
In addition, while taking into account the ultra-large and durable battery, the charging power of OPPO K12s is maintained at 80W, which is consistent with OPPO K12 Plus.
So, what are its battery life and charging speed? We also tested them one by one.
Charging test
We drained the battery of the OPPO K12s to 1% and tested its charging with the screen off. It took 10 minutes to charge the battery to 20%, 20 minutes to charge it to 39%, half an hour to charge it to 56%, and one hour to charge it to 92%. At this time, it has entered the trickle charging stage, and it finally took 72 minutes to fully charge it.
Battery life test
In terms of battery life testing, we use Battery Dog, a professional battery life testing tool produced by Fast Technology, for testing.
In the test items, 20% power test will be performed by default. At the same time, all test items including CPU high voltage, CPU multi-threading, AI recognition, image browsing, video playback and web browsing will be checked. By simulating user usage scenarios, the real load is restored to the greatest extent, which is as close to the actual power consumption as possible.
During the test, to keep the environmental variables of all model tests consistent and ensure the accuracy of the test results, Battery Dog will automatically adjust the screen brightness to 50%, turn off automatic brightness, and adjust the volume to 30%.
After the Battery Dog battery life test, it took 18 hours, 11 minutes, and 23 seconds ffor the PPO K12s to consume power from 100% to 20%. After conversion, the comprehensive battery life exceeded 22.5 hours. This battery life ranks second in our Battery Dog battery life list. This result is more than 2 hours ahead of the average battery life of similar products, and it has strongly landed in the second place on the Battery Dog battery life list.
Performance Games
In terms of performance, OPPO K12s uses the fourth-generation Snapdragon 6 mobile platform.
The fourth-generation Snapdragon 6 mobile platform can be regarded as a down-clocked version of the third-generation Snapdragon 7’s large core. Its CPU architecture is consistent with the third-generation Snapdragon 7s, with an eight-core “1+3+4” architecture design, consisting of 1×2.3GHz Cortex-A720+3×2.2GHz Cortex-A720+4×1.8GHz Cortex-A520. Compared with the third-generation Snapdragon 7s, the A720 large core has dropped by 0.2GHz.
The GPU uses Adreno 810 895MHz, which is the same as the third-generation Snapdragon 7s. In this regard, we also conducted a series of tests on the performance and games of the mobile phone.
During the test, we turned off the phone’s memory expansion function and turned on the phone’s high-performance mode.
Theoretical performance
According to AnTuTu’s comprehensive test, the total score is 809,000 points. Its CPU and GPU performance are slightly weaker than those of Snapdragon 7s Gen3, but in daily use, this gap is almost negligible, and users will not feel a significant difference in experience.
In the GeekBench 6 single-core performance test, OPPO K12s scored 1007 points in single-core performance and 3122 points in multi-core performance, which is slightly weaker thanthe Snapdragon 7s Gen3.
Game Testing
For the game test, we selected two representative mainstream mobile games, namely “Honor of Kings” and “Call of Duty”. In an indoor office environment of 25 degrees Celsius, we tested them with frame rate priority and recorded the frame rate, power consumption, energy efficiency ratio and body temperature performance during the game.
1. Honor of Kings
The mobile game “Honor of Kings” can support a frame rate of up to 990 FPSin high-definition picture quality mode.
After an intense 5V5 team battle test, the game’s average frame rate stabilized at 889.9 FPS running at full frame almost all the time without any pressure, easily meeting the high frame rate requirements of this national-level mobile game.
The average power consumption of the game is 2.62W, and the energy efficiency ratio is 34.3 FPS/W.
After the game, the maximum temperature on the back of the body reached 36 degrees Celsius. With this low-power chip, there was no sign of heat during the entire gaming process.
2. Call of Duty
Next was the test of the shooting mobile game “Call of Duty”. 90FPS can be turned on with smooth picture quality. After an intense battle, the average frame rate of the game was 88.9 FPS, which can be regarded as full-frame operation.
The average power consumption of the game is 2.56W, and the energy efficiency ratio is 34.7FPS/W. This energy efficiency is really impressive!
Due to its ultra-high energy efficiency, the temperature of OPPO K12s after playing games is less than 35 degrees Celsius. When it comes to this kind of national mobile games, it is really stable and cool to play!
Cameras
In terms of imaging, the OPPO K12s has a rear dual-camera module. The main camera uses a 50-megapixel OmniVision sensor, and the other is a 2-megapixel auxiliary lens. These two lenses are enough for recording some daily life.
In daytime scenes, the samples taken by OPPO K12s using the main camera present a real and natural style without oversaturation. In light-facing scenes, it can also clearly capture street scene details, showing good light and shadow performance and layering.
In night scenes, OPPO K12s uses night scene mode to increase exposure, which can balance light and color well, making the outlines and details of the buildings clearly visible, while retaining the color of the lights and the atmosphere of the night.
