Samsung Galaxy S8 has just been launched and it is one of the most innovative smartphones of this year. It is already considered by many people the best phone on the market, but its price will be very high. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi6 is coming, and this Chinese flagship will probably have a much lower price; still, it will be one of the best flagships of the market.

Design

Xiaomi Mi6 is expected to have a design which will be either made of glass or ceramic. From the leaked images until now we saw a curved back on a compact phone with a very elegant design. But Samsung Galaxy S8 is a real revolution, it has an “infinity edge” curved display taking almost the whole frontal panel, which also is in 18,9. The design is made of glass and metal and it seems much more innovative and refined than the Mi6’s one.

Display

Xiaomi Mi6 will almost surely have two versions a normal one with a 5.15 inch Full HD screen, and a Plus variant that could still be Full HD but it could have a 5.7 inch screen. The S8 instead has a 5.8 panel with a resolution that is superior to Quad HD, it also supports HDR10 like TVs and it is definitely the best screen actually on the market. So, Samsung Galaxy S8 is better even on this side.

Hardware

Both Xiaomi Mi6 and Samsung Galaxy S8 will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC, together with 4 or more GB of RAM. The S8 will sport an Exynos 8895 in the European version. The performances may be very similar, but there is to consider that the Mi6 will cost much less. That is why we prefer Xiaomi Mi6.

Camera

Xiaomi Mi6 according to rumors will have a 19 MP dual camera: the Sony IMX400 which has still not been released until now, while Samsung Galaxy S8 has the same 12 MP dual pixel camera from the S7, but the software is now better and it manages the camera better. We do not know if Mi6 will shot better photo, but surely it will have an innovative camera if rumors are true, so we choose the Xiaomi Mi6 for now.

Battery

There is still no info about Xiaomi Mi6’s battery, it may be a 4000 or 4100 mAh unit, but take it with a pinch of salt. Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 3000 mAh battery instead. We expect that the Mi6 will have a better battery life due to lower consumptions: the screen, for example, has a lower resolution.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy S8 costs more than 800 dollars, Xiaomi Mi6 will probably start from 400 dollars in China, 450 dollars worldwide. Judging by rumors, we choose Samsung Galaxy S8 for the innovation, but the Mi6 will offer a much better value for money, so it will be better for who has a limited budget.
