Teardown of the Xiaomi Vacuum Cleaner

Before some days we wrote an review of the newest creation from Xiaomi, the Smart Vacuum Cleaner. The vacuum Cleaner is a good hit for me and one of the best gadgets that Xiaomi ever made till now. Rumors about this vacuum were moving around from a month a go. Regardless, these facts the Xiaomi vacuum cleaner is going to win many users’ hearts due to its design and smart behavior. Since we have already reviewed it and learned its key features, I guess it’s the right time to take the cover off and look what’s inside.

Before we start the operation and see what is hiding inside, let’s remember what specs has. The cleaner is equipped with Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithm to calculate the map, brushless DC motor delivering up to 1800Pa air pressure, 5200mAh 14.4V lithium-ion battery that is enough to clean up to 250 square meter area and working for about 2.5 hours and so on. From sensors, Xiaomi has told us that is equipped with Laser Distance Sensor (LDS) that provides a 360 degrees scanning (1800 times/second), as and 11 other sensors. To work with all these 12 sensors (LDS, wall, dust bin, collision, ultrasonic radar, cliff, electronic compass, gyroscope/accelerator, drop, speedometer, and fan speed) the cleaner uses 3 dedicated processors: a quad-core processor from Allwinner, a STMicroelectronics ARM processor, and a Texas Instruments LDS image processor. There cleaner uses two brushes (the main brush and the side brush) for the cleaning and can move on three wheels (two wheels and the caster).

So now its time to start the teardown .

We start from the bottom of the cleaner.

In order to find these 6 ports to start screwing

Since you finish, be careful to remove first the floating main brush first.

Then there is and an other screw on the side brush to remove it.

Now that all brushes are removed, it’s time to open the bottom cover and look at what is inside

It seems that we must remove one more thing in order to go on further more – battery and two wheels….

Now remove the second part of the side brush.

To remove the upper cover we have to take off the bumper protection plate and back plastic case first.

Remove and the upper cover off.

After that you will be able to see the LDS, which is the key feature of this device. Fortunately, it’s fixed solidly and it’s difficult to harm.

The same can be said for the rest of sensors.

Now you can take the motherboard off.
