What Can You Do With An Outdated Mobile Phone?

We live in times where we simply cannot function without having our mobile phones on us at all times. And this is why we’re always looking to find the best phone for our convenience. You just bought the newest, shiniest phone on the market. It’s got all the bells and whistles you wanted, and you can’t wait to start using it. But what do you do with your old phone? Should you sell it, trade it, or recycle it? Or perhaps you want to consider keeping it as a backup.

In either case, there are pros and cons to each option but don’t worry. This article will guide you through what you should do if an outdated phone is catching dust in your drawer once you’ve upgraded to a new one.

    The Perfect Backup

Let’s face it. We’ve all been there. You’re out and about, living your life when suddenly your phone dies. Whether it’s a dead battery or a cracked screen, being without a working phone can be annoying. But wait! You remember that you have an old, beat-up phone in the back of your drawer that you can use instead. Phew, crisis averted. While it may be tempting to upgrade to the latest and greatest model as soon as it comes out, there are several benefits to keeping your old phone around as a backup.

For one thing, they can store all your backup from your main phone and tend to have better battery life than newer models, so you won’t have to worry about them running out of juice when you need them the most. And even if you lose your emergency backup phone, it’s not the end of the world and would probably cost you a small fortune. So keep your outdated phone handy. You never know when it can act as a blessing in disguise.

    Repurpose Your Phone

There are many options for what you can do with old phones. And, if you ask us, repurposing is the most creative way to utilize its potential. Not only will you get to keep your phone and all of its sentimental value, but you’ll also be able to give it a whole new lease on life.

There are many creative ways to use your outdated phone, one of them is turning it into a dedicated media player. Load it up with your favorite books, movies, TV shows, and voila! You’ve got yourself a portable entertainment center. Apart from that, there are endless ways you can change the purpose of your phone. From making it a multipurpose media remote to turning it into a security camera or a VR headset, believe us when we say your secondary phone might help you in ways you never imagined.

    Recycle Or Refurbish Your Phone

If you’re looking to save money and the planet, recycling or refurbishing your old mobile phone is a great option. When you decide to recycle or refurbish your old mobile phone, you are basically preventing it from ending up in an e-waste landfill.

At the same, you can make some bucks by selling it to a refurbishing or recycling company. There are plenty of companies and online retailers who are on the hunt to get your old phone. These establishments offer you some money or give you a trade deal in lieu of your old phone.

While getting recycled, important parts are extracted from the phone, and faulty parts are discarded which might be on their way to landfill whereas phones, when refurbished, are thoroughly repaired, restored, tested, and brought back to life before being sold in the market. Specialists at WeSellTek state that these refurbished phones are as good as new, come with a limited warranty, which is hard to get if you buy from a reseller, and also come with a heavily discounted price tag. So, consider this viable option to reduce your carbon footprint.

    Donate it

If you don’t want to keep your old mobile phone, you can always donate it to a charity or non-profit organization. These organizations often collect used phones and either recycle them or refurbish them to be given to people in need. It is not only philanthropic, but it can also be helpful to the environment. Moreover, when you donate your old phone, someone in need will have the opportunity to stay connected with family and friends.

Most people don’t realize that their outdated phone can still be incredibly useful to someone who doesn’t have regular access to technology. By donating your old phone, you can help close the digital divide and provide someone with a valuable resource. Additionally, you conserve resources and reduce environmental pollution by not throwing them away as e-waste. So next time you’re feeling guilty about your phone lying in your drawer, remember to donate your phone to someone needy.

    Sell or Swap it

If you’re like most people who probably upgrade their phone every few years and someone who probably has no idea what to do with your old phone once you’ve made the switch, Selling is one of the best options you can consider. Here’s why:

You’ll make some money. Let’s face it, phones today are really expensive. If you can get a little cash for your old one or lessen the cost of the new one by swapping it, that’s a bonus. There are plenty of people looking for older phones that are still in good condition. Additionally, you could list it on eBay or Craigslist or take it to a local phone store that buys used phones. If you sell it, someone else can put it to good use while keeping it out of landfills where it will just sit and rot. So not only are you getting some money (or a new phone!),  you’re also doing your bit for the planet. Win-win!
