Xiaomi Mi 8 VS Huawei P20 Pro Comparison Review: Huawei P20 Pro, one of the best of the year, Can Xiaomi’s new mobile stand up?

Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr Email

I had raised a lot of expectation and, finally, it’s official. The Xiaomi Mi 8 was introduced only a couple of days ago and arrives willing to compete with the biggest of the year. It sports a new design with a screen without frames, a glass back, a double camera system with artificial intelligence and a powerful technical set. All this with a price, presumably, much lower than that of its most direct rivals.

And since it wants to compete with the high-end models, let’s see how it is defended against them. The first to face the new terminal of Xiaomi is one of the revelations of the year. The Huawei P20 Pro has earned, for most professionals, the mobile title with the best camera of 2018. At least for now. But the P20 Pro is not just a great camera. It also has a lot of power and a good design. So, can Xiaomi’s new mobile with the Huawei terminal? We put the Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Huawei P20 Pro-face to face.

    Design

The Xiaomi Mi 8, like the Huawei P20 Pro, hit the market completely breaking the design of its predecessors. Both companies have been able to adapt their new flagships to what the market demands in 2018.

Let ‘s face it, the design of the Mi 8 shamelessly copy of Apple iPhone X. Which, in reality, is a good thing, because for most it’s a great design. We have a glass back, with high-performance aluminum frames of the 7 series. The edges of the back are slightly curved to facilitate the grip of the device. In the central area of the back, we have the fingerprint reader. The camera is placed in a vertical position, in the left corner. The full dimensions of the Xiaomi Mi 8 are  154.9 x 74.8 x 7.6 millimeters, with a weight of 175 grams. It will be available in four colors: black, white, gold and blue.

The Huawei P20 Pro is very similar in design. Its back is also made of shiny glass and its metal frames. In this case, we have a slightly cleaner back since the fingerprint reader is placed in the front. The triple camera is placed in the upper left corner, in a vertical position. We have two sensors surrounded by an oval frame and slightly raised from the housing. The third is separated from the rest, just below, and protrudes a little less. The full dimensions of the Huawei P20 Pro are  155 x 73.9 x 7.8 mm, with a weight of 185 grams. That is, it is practically as tall, a little narrower and slightly thicker than its rival. Yes, there is a little more difference in the price, with 10 grams more. Something that, most likely, is due to the battery, as we will see later.

    Display

If the design of these two phones is very similar, something similar happens with the screen. The Xiaomi Mi 8 is equipped with a Super AMOLED panel manufactured by Samsung. It has a size of  6.21 inches and a resolution of 2,248 x 1,080 pixels. We also know that thanks to OLED technology, the screen achieves a contrast of 60,000: 1. In addition, it has a maximum brightness of 600 nits, the same data offered by its predecessor.

The Huawei P20 Pro equips a  panel with OLED technology and a size of 6.1 inches. This offers a  resolution of 2,240 x 1,080 pixels and format 18,7: 9. Huawei is not given much to give much technical data on the screens used in their Smartphones, so we have no more information. Yes, I can tell you that I have tested the Huawei P20 Pro and the screen has a lot of image quality and a consistent brightness level.

    Hardware

Xiaomi MI8 VS Huawei p20 pro antutu

Inside the Xiaomi Mi 8, we have a powerful Snapdragon 845 processor from Qualcomm. This is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and three versions of internal storage: 64, 128 and 256 GB. According to the manufacturer, the Xiaomi Mi 8 gets an AnTuTu score that exceeds 300,000 points. Something that, on the other hand, we will have to check ourselves. If so, it would be one of the most powerful Smartphones in the market.

The Huawei P20 Pro has a Kirin 970 processor manufactured by Huawei. This chip debuted with the Huawei Mate 10 and is still the most powerful of the company. We assume that until Mate 11 comes out. It is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. And this time it is key to choose the storage capacity well since neither of them offers the possibility of expanding with a microSD card.

    Camera

The photographic section is key if you want to compete for face to face with high-end mobile phones. In Xiaomi they know it and that is why they gave such importance to the camera of the Xiaomi Mi 8 in its presentation.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 is equipped with two 12 megapixel sensors, one with aperture f / 1.8 and the other with aperture f / 2.4. The main sensor has 4-axis optical stabilization. The camera is capable of recording video with 4K resolution at 30fps. As for the front camera, it equips a 20-megapixel sensor. It also has the technology of large pixels 1.8 μm (4 in 1). But, beyond the technical section, Xiaomi put a lot of emphasis on the artificial intelligence that assists the cameras of the Mi 8. This is able to recognize up to 206 types of scene and apply the ideal configuration parameters. Portrait Mode also has a lot of protagonists, with up to 7 types of lighting effects applied by AI.

We talked about the Huawei P20 Pro camera at length. It consists of 3 sensors, with a combination of RGB sensor + monochrome + telephoto sensor. The first reaches a resolution of 40 megapixels and has an aperture f / 1.8. On the other hand, the monochrome sensor offers a resolution of 20 megapixels and an opening f / 1.6. The combination of both gets more detailed photos and a 2x zoom. The third in question is a telephoto lens with a resolution of 8 megapixels and aperture f / 2.4. Its function is to offer an equivalent focal length of 80 mm, with a 5x zoom. As for the front camera, it has a resolution of 24 megapixels with aperture f / 2.0. And, as you will imagine, it is also equipped with artificial intelligence to improve photographs.

    Battery & Connectivity

At the moment the Xiaomi Mi 8 is enduring very well the comparison with the P20 Pro, at least on paper. But how about your battery? Well, possibly, it is its weakest point. Xiaomi Mi 8 is equipped with a 3,400 milliamp battery. It is a capacity that is within the average of high-end mobiles. But we must take into account the large size of the screen, the power of the processor and the AI system of the cameras. However, until we test it thoroughly we should not draw conclusions. Of course, the Xiaomi Mi 8 has fast Charge Quick Charge 4+.

P20 Pro has a battery of 4,000 milliamps, which is noticeable when using the mobile in a real environment. This allows us to overcome the whole day without problems, even if we give an intense use to the device. In addition, it is equipped with a Huawei fast charging system. This allows us to charge 50% of the battery in one hour. In terms of connectivity, both Smartphones are equipped with 802.11ac WiFi, NFC, and USB Type C connector. But the Mi 8 stands out for including a dual-band GPS and Bluetooth 5.0.

    Conclusion

We reach the end and we must draw conclusions. Although it is difficult without having thoroughly tested the terminal of Xiaomi. As we always say, in design each user will have their personal tastes. Both have a glass body and notch on the front, in addition to the cameras located in the same position. It is the small details that will make us decide on one or the other, such as the location of the fingerprint reader. On the screen, we could also have a draw. Both offer a panel with OLED technology and with similar resolutions. Of course, the screen of the Xiaomi Mi 8 is slightly larger. As for the photographic section, we cannot decide without trying the Mi 8 camera. Right Now we can buy Huawei P20 Pro From Geekbuying at $779.99 & Xiaomi Mi 8 at $516.99
