The Rise In Mobile & Tablet Gaming Over The Years

Online gaming has taken the internet by storm from playing a solo game of solitaire to multiplayer video games. While console gaming has been quite popular over different generations, now that mobile technology is advancing there is a growing number of gamers playing on mobile devices. With mobile apps like Candy Crush Saga staying popular with players for years, it’s easy to see how such mobile games attract players. So how has mobile gaming developed over the years?

Casual gaming is becoming more popular with gamers

Rather than taking the time to switch on PC’s or spending large sums of money on expensive consoles and games, mobile devices are more accessible for a lot of users and game apps are a lot cheaper. With a large amount of the population owning a mobile phone, games are ready to download quickly through app stores with the touch of a button. Pokemon Go was a huge successful app in 2016 and even encouraged mobile users to get active and get outside. To highlight its popularity, data from Statista showed that in 2018 monthly Pokemon Go users reached around 10.66 million.

It’s clear to see how casual gaming has increased over the years as people can access their mobile at all times of the day, in all places, to play their favourite mobile games. According to Udonis, around 58% of mobile game players play casual games like puzzle, arcade, and action games. Even when people are busy commuting or out at the park, they can play mobile games without needing to be at home to switch on a console.

Mobile is taking over many forms of in-person gaming

Mobile gaming has not just impacted the video game industry but also the iGaming industry too as many players are turning to mobile devices over other types of gaming. For example, rather than visiting a bingo hall or a physical casino establishment, a lot of players are switching to mobile-based gaming instead. According to 21.co.uk, more people are turning towards playing at online casinos rather than land-based ones. Around 90% of players play online slot games while only 10% choose to play in-person.

It’s fast becoming more popular than traditional gaming

While other types of gaming might be popular, in today’s society it is impossible to ignore the impact that mobiles are having in the gaming industry. According to these 2020 mobile gaming statistics, total global gaming revenue is distributed across PC games, console games, and mobile games, with mobile games taking up 51% of the revenue.

While mobile gaming doesn’t quite come close to the console gaming experience, over the years mobile technology has also developed to become better than it’s ever been. With Apple releasing new iPhone devices almost every year since 2007, many people are looking out for the latest technology news for their new device announcements and rumoured features. The new iPhone 12 has a 6.1” Super Retina XDR display and is one of the world’s smallest, thinnest, and also lightest 5G phones, making mobile gaming and mobile usage in general a lot more efficient.
