Microsoft Surface Duo 2 will Launch in October with a Snapdragon 888

It’s no secret that the Surface Duo, Microsoft’s first Android phone, was plagued by problems with its first generation of dual screens. The Surface Duo still runs Android 10 and outdated Microsoft Launcher versions. In fact, the Microsoft Launcher doesn’t even have the features found on traditional Android phones.

Microsoft is currently working on a big update to its Microsoft Launcher Launcher, which could debut with the Surface Duo 2, though the final timing could change.

The Android 11 and Microsoft Launcher Update was originally scheduled to launch for the Surface Duo earlier this year, but recently, the goal has been changed to optimize the Surface Duo 2 experience.

In a tweet, Microsoft program manager Vishnu Nath also hinted at plans to make big changes to the Microsoft Launcher, with more details likely to be shared at the rumored Surface Duo 2 launch event in October.

According to foreign media, a major software update is planned for the Surface Duo. If true, it’s a great move for Microsoft, especially given the problems users had with first-generation models.

The Surface Duo 2 will arrive in October

As recently reported, the Surface Duo 2 is currently scheduled to debut in October, after photos of the device surfaced online last month. Little is known about the new Surface Duo, but reports suggest that the new dual-screen phone will be similar to the first-generation hardware, with additional improvements.

For example, the Surface Duo 2 camera setup will include a new main sensor, telephoto sensor and ultra-wide Angle sensor. We’re also looking forward to a new Qualcomm flagship chip that supports 5G and NFC.

Igeekphone has learned that the second-generation model will be significantly faster than the original Surface Duo, and Microsoft wants to address all the drawbacks. For example, the default camera app will be updated to add new features to improve the device’s camera processing power.

As mentioned at the beginning, Microsoft will keep the Surface Duo look on the second generation of hardware, which means offering the same dual-screen and hinged experience.

Here are the expected features of the Surface Duo 2:

    It’s powered by snapdragon 888.

Upgraded camera setup with camera modules on both sides.

Improved Microsoft Launcher and camera apps.

Microsoft is also contributing to Android’s growth, with better support for dual and foldable screens.

For example, Microsoft is exploring support for multi-window scenes in ScreenshotTest.

“To support multi-window scenarios (especially collapsible screens) : Launch an auxiliary activity to fill the display, allowing the reported boundary (App) to be smaller than the screen shot (full screen), and calculate the proportions accordingly,” Microsoft said.
