Today Lenovo announced two new ThinkBooks at CES 2022: the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G4 + and the ThinkBook 16 G4 +, which offer slimmer designs, better internal and display options, and improved sensor-based security features.
Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G4 +
The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G4 + is designed to cater to modern hybrid workspaces with a three-sided aluminum chassis in arctic gray. The power button and touchpad feature a CNC diamond cut for a premium look. The ThinkBook 14 G4 + is around 15.9 mm thick and weighs 1.4 kg. Lenovo said the evaluation for MIL-STD 810H is still pending.
Lenovo offers several 14-inch 16:10 IPS display choices for the ThinkBook 14 G4 +. Buyers can choose from 2.8K (2880×1800) 90 Hz 400 nits 100% sRGB, 2.2K (2240×1400) 300 nits 100% sRGB, and WUXGA (1920×1200) 300 nits. Except for the WUXGA panel, all other options have hardware-controlled low blue light technology.
Under the hood, this model is powered by the latest Intel 12th gen Alder Lake-H processors coupled with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 memory. This year’s ThinkBook 14 G4 + is also the first laptop we’ve seen with the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 Laptop GPU. The RTX 2050 supports 4GB of GDDR6 RAM and can be configured up to a 45W TGP and 1,477MHz boost clock. A dual-fan design helps keep internal components cool. There is the option to add up to two M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSDs up to 2TB.
The network includes both wired and wireless Wi-Fi 6E connectivity with Bluetooth 5. A Thunderbolt 4 port is available along with a number of other types of USB ports and a 3-in-1 card reader. Options of 46.5 Whr and 62 Whr of battery capacity are offered depending on the configuration. Both of them support Lenovo RapidCharge.
Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G4 +
The ThinkBook 16 G4 + takes it up a notch with a larger 16-inch 16:10 IPS display. Internal specs are largely the same as the ThinkBook 14 G4 +, including options for Alder Lake-H45 processors, Nvidia RTX 2050 discrete graphics, and up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM. If the overall thickness remains the same, the weight of the chassis is higher, at 1.82 kg. MIL-STD 810H evaluation is ongoing.
The ThinkBook 16 G4 + doesn’t offer a 2.8K display option like its 14-inch sibling. Instead, it offers a choice of 2.5K (2560×1600) 120 Hz 350 nits 100% sRGB color-calibrated display options, 2.5K 350 nits 100% sRGB, and WUXGA (1920×1200) 300 nits. Once again, the blue light emissions from the WUXGA display are controlled by software, unlike the 2.5K variants which offer hardware control.
Networking and port selection is the same as on the ThinkBook 14 G4 +. The presence of a 4-in-1 card reader, which also accepts MMC cards, is a nice addition. The battery capacities are also higher, at 57 Whr and 71 Whr depending on the configuration.
Price and Availability
The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G4 + and the ThinkBook 16 G4 + are priced at $839, and $859 respectively. While these new ThinkBooks will be available from April 2022. Lenovo has not yet disclosed prices and availability in other regions.
