Design
The dimensions of the Powkiddy X18s are far from excessive (15.3 x 9.4 x 2.4 cm) and it doesn’t weigh much either. Overall build quality looks convincing, but it does have its weaknesses and one is the display hinge. Once opened you can choose between two snap angles, but there is always a certain game that is not exactly pleasant. The physical controls are essentially divided into two parts: some are dedicated to the operating system, others are of the game controller. The top middle row of 7 keys is all for Android.
Hardware
A SoC MediaTek MTK8163, a solution composed of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz associated with an ARM Mali graphics chipset -T720 MP2. The chip is accompanied by 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of basic eMMC storage that can be upgraded with a MicroSD card1. With the powerful six-core processor and the ample RAM, the retro console should offer enough power to emulate the most diverse systems in gaming history.
Features
In addition to emulator gaming, which is sometimes legally tricky, the Powkiddy X18S with its Android operating system should also be well suited for game streaming from the PC or newer retro games for Android. Even newer systems from the Dreamcast and Gamecube era should be able to be emulated on the six-core chip. So it’s a good thing that the retro console, in addition to the control pad and action buttons, is also equipped with two analog sticks, which make controlling 3D games much easier.
