Samsung officially released a new retail flagship SSD, the Samsung 990 PRO, and also launched a version with RGB light heat sinks during the same period. The new product adopts the PCIe 4.0 x4 protocol, but it has been upgraded to NVMe 2.0, using a new master control and new TLC flash memory particles, starting from 1T and reaching a maximum of 4T.
According to reports, the sequential read and write speeds of the Samsung 990 PRO are 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively, and the random read and write speeds are 1400K and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The random read and write performance is 55% higher than that of the 980 PRO.
This SSD has been listed on overseas Amazon half a month ago, showing that it will be shipped in mid-October, of which the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB is priced at 324.9 euros (about 2274.3 yuan).
Now Samsung has begun to warm up this new product, and it has also appeared on Samsung’s official website. Samsung’s official website currently has 1TB and 2TB versions of the 990 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD and 990 PRO With Heatsink (heatsink version) PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD, but the unannounced listing date is only given offline store sales channels.
This hard drive uses an intelligent cooling solution. Nickel-plated controllers and thermal control algorithms dynamically manage heat to ensure consistent performance. The heatsink label controls the heat of the NAND chip and maintains the optimum temperature for operation with “Dynamic Thermal Guard” technology.
According to reports, the Samsung 990 Pro has improved energy efficiency, consumes less power than the previous generation, and has 50% more performance per watt than the 980 PRO.
