Xiaomi 18 Rumored to Debut Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition Gen 6, Starting Price Could Exceed 5,499 Yuan

August 14, 2026 — Igeekphone: New information about Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 18, has surfaced online, suggesting that the company could once again position its next-generation flagship at the forefront of mobile performance and smartphone photography.

According to the latest reports from overseas technology media, the Xiaomi 18 is expected to become the first smartphone globally to launch with Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship platform, the Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition Gen 6.

The upcoming handset is also rumored to receive a major camera-system overhaul, including a possible move to a 200-megapixel dual-camera setup jointly tuned with Leica. At the same time, Xiaomi could significantly increase the starting price, with current rumors pointing to a price above 5,499 yuan in China.

It is important to note that Xiaomi has not yet officially confirmed these specifications or pricing details.

Xiaomi 18 Could Retain the Familiar Design

Despite the rumored internal upgrades, the Xiaomi 18 is not expected to receive a dramatic exterior redesign.

Based on current leaks, Xiaomi may continue with the design language established by the previous generation. The camera module is reportedly expected to remain positioned in the upper-left corner of the rear panel, retaining the familiar square-shaped camera housing.

This approach would make the Xiaomi 18 immediately recognizable as part of the existing Xiaomi flagship family.

For existing Xiaomi users, the relatively conservative design could also make the transition to the new model more familiar. Rather than focusing on a completely redesigned exterior, Xiaomi appears to be concentrating much of the rumored upgrade on performance and imaging.

    Five Color Options Reportedly Planned

The Xiaomi 18 is rumored to be offered in five color options:

    • Black
    • White
    • Pink
    • Blue
    • Red

If the full lineup reaches the market, Xiaomi would provide a broader selection of finishes aimed at different consumer preferences.

The rumored red and pink variants could appeal to buyers looking for a more distinctive appearance, while black, white, and blue would provide more conventional alternatives.

As with the other specifications, the final colors and availability may vary depending on the market.

Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition Gen 6 Could Be the Biggest Performance Upgrade

The most significant hardware change could be hidden inside the Xiaomi 18.

According to current reports, Xiaomi is expected to become the first global smartphone manufacturer to introduce Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition Gen 6.

If accurate, this would give the Xiaomi 18 an early advantage over competing Android flagships built around the same generation of Qualcomm hardware.

A new-generation flagship chipset would be expected to deliver improvements in areas such as:

    • CPU performance
    • GPU performance
    • AI processing
    • Power efficiency
    • Gaming performance
    • Image processing
    • On-device AI capabilities

However, Qualcomm has not officially confirmed the full specifications or commercial naming details of the rumored platform, so these claims should be treated as preliminary.

Xiaomi 18 Could Make a Major Camera Change

The camera system could be the other major highlight of the Xiaomi 18.

According to supply-chain-related reports, Xiaomi may move away from the previous generation’s 50-megapixel triple-camera configuration and adopt a dual-camera system featuring two 200-megapixel sensors.

Rather than increasing the number of cameras, Xiaomi could instead focus on improving the quality and capabilities of its two primary imaging systems.

This would represent a significant change in strategy.

200MP Main Camera and 200MP Telephoto

The rumored configuration could consist of a large-aperture main camera paired with a 200-megapixel telephoto camera, with both systems reportedly receiving Leica tuning.

The telephoto camera could become one of the Xiaomi 18’s defining features.

High-resolution telephoto sensors can provide substantial flexibility for zoom photography by capturing more detail before digital cropping is applied. Combined with Xiaomi’s computational photography algorithms and Leica’s imaging expertise, the setup could potentially deliver stronger results across a broad range of focal lengths.

The exact sensor sizes, optical zoom range, stabilization system, aperture, and image-processing capabilities remain unknown.

If Xiaomi does adopt this configuration, however, the move would demonstrate a clear emphasis on imaging quality rather than simply increasing the number of cameras.

Leica Collaboration Could Remain Central to Imaging

Xiaomi has increasingly emphasized its collaboration with Leica on premium smartphone photography.

The rumored Xiaomi 18 camera system is also expected to continue this partnership, with Leica reportedly involved in tuning the dual-camera setup.

The collaboration could involve color science, image processing, lens design, shooting modes, and overall imaging characteristics.

For enthusiasts, the combination of high-resolution sensors and Leica-tuned imaging could make the Xiaomi 18 particularly interesting as a photography-focused flagship.

Price Could Rise by More Than 1,000 Yuan

Perhaps the most controversial part of the latest leak concerns pricing.

The Xiaomi 18 is reportedly expected to start at more than 5,499 yuan in China.

For comparison, the previous-generation Xiaomi 17 reportedly started at 4,499 yuan.

If the rumored 5,499-yuan starting price is ultimately confirmed, the Xiaomi 18 would represent an increase of at least 1,000 yuan, or more than 20%, over its predecessor.

That would mark a substantial shift in Xiaomi’s flagship pricing strategy.

Rising Component Costs Could Push Prices Higher

The reported price increase is being attributed partly to rising costs for key smartphone components, particularly processors and memory.

Flagship mobile chipsets are becoming increasingly expensive as manufacturers invest more heavily in advanced semiconductor processes, AI acceleration, graphics performance, and power efficiency.

At the same time, memory costs have also been subject to market fluctuations.

If Xiaomi combines a new-generation flagship processor with an advanced dual-200MP imaging system, the bill of materials could rise considerably.

However, pricing rumors should be treated cautiously until Xiaomi officially announces the product and its Chinese retail pricing.

Xiaomi 18 vs Xiaomi 17: Expected Changes

Feature Xiaomi 17 Xiaomi 18 (Rumored)
Starting price in China 4,499 yuan More than 5,499 yuan
Processor Previous-generation flagship platform Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition Gen 6
    Rear cameras 50MP triple-camera system 200MP dual-camera system
Telephoto Existing configuration 200MP telephoto, rumored
Leica imaging Supported Expected to continue
Design Current Xiaomi flagship design Similar overall design
Colors Multiple options Black, white, pink, blue, red rumored

The Xiaomi 18’s biggest differences could therefore be concentrated in performance, imaging, and pricing, rather than in the external design.

    A More Focused Flagship Strategy?

If the rumored specifications become reality, Xiaomi could be pursuing a more focused approach with the Xiaomi 18.

Instead of adding more cameras or introducing a radically different design, the company could concentrate resources on two major areas: processing power and imaging quality.

A dual-camera system with two high-resolution sensors would be an especially interesting strategy. It could reduce the need for multiple specialized cameras while allowing Xiaomi to invest more heavily in its main and telephoto systems.

Combined with a next-generation Qualcomm platform, this could position the Xiaomi 18 as a performance- and photography-focused compact flagship.

What to Expect From the Xiaomi 18

At this stage, most of the information surrounding the Xiaomi 18 remains unofficial. The processor, camera configuration, colors, and pricing mentioned in the latest reports have not been formally confirmed by Xiaomi.

If the leaks prove accurate, however, the Xiaomi 18 could offer several major upgrades:

    • First global smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition Gen 6
    • 200MP main camera
    • 200MP telephoto camera
    • Leica-tuned imaging system
    • Five rumored color options
    • Familiar square camera-module design
    • Higher flagship positioning
    • Potential starting price above 5,499 yuan

    Final Thoughts

Xiaomi 18 is shaping up to be an intriguing next-generation flagship if the latest rumors prove accurate. Rather than dramatically changing the exterior, Xiaomi could focus on upgrading the components that matter most to enthusiasts: processing performance and camera capabilities.

The rumored adoption of the Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition Gen 6 could give Xiaomi an early performance advantage, while the proposed dual-200MP Leica-tuned camera system could make photography the phone’s biggest selling point.

The potential price increase, however, could be a major concern. A starting price above 5,499 yuan, compared with the reported 4,499-yuan starting price of the Xiaomi 17, would represent a significant increase and could move the Xiaomi 18 into a more expensive segment of the flagship market.

For now, these details remain rumors, and Xiaomi has yet to officially announce the Xiaomi 18. As the launch approaches, more information about the chipset, camera sensors, battery, display, configurations, and international availability should provide a clearer picture of Xiaomi’s next flagship strategy.
