Camera Review Between Huawei Mate 10 Pro And Samsung Galaxy Note 8

This time we will compare two important products: one from Huawei and one from Samsung. Samsung is already a strong company on the market, while Huawei is a brand that continues to develop and it managed to impress us quite a few times. In this episode of our camera review, we will be comparing two new flagship phablets between the Huawei Mate 10 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro And Samsung Galaxy Note 8 specs:

Here they have quite a lot of differences. The Galaxy Note 8 comes with a lot of curves and a 6.3-inch 2960 x 1440 display that is HDR compatible. Meanwhile the Mate 10 Pro has 6 inches and 2160 x 1080 pixels in resolution. The back of the Note 8 comes with camera flash, two camera sensors, and a fingerprint reader. Meanwhile, the Mate 10 has a dual camera, flash, a fingerprint sensor and a laser autofocus module.

When it comes to Huawei, under the hood you will find the Kirin 970, the chip created by the company. This chip is 50% more energy efficient than the previous one, which is a strong advantage. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. This means that both devices have eight cores, and they both have 6 GB of RAM.

Meanwhile, the Mate 10 Pro is available in 64 GB and 128 GB sizes, and these cannot be expanded. The Galaxy Note 8 has 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB models, and all these models come with MicroSD card readers.

If you are trying to choose between these two, the tricky part is the fact that they have similar specs.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro versus Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Camera Specs:

Huawei partnered with Leica to co-engineer the Mate 10 Pro’s rear snapper. It consists of an optically stabilized 12MP RGB sensor and a 20MP monochrome sensor, both of which have SUMMILUX-H lenses and a f/1.6 aperture — the world’s largest, according to Huawei. There are a dual ISP and laser autofocus on-board, plus software that takes full advantage of the Mate 10 Pro’s hardware. An iPhone 7 Plus-like Portrait Mode filter generates a bokeh effect by combining the two sensors’ imaging data, and a monochrome mode snaps a black-and-white picture using the Mate 10 Pro’s 20MP sensor.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks to the Mate 10 Pro’s Kirin 970 chip, the camera’s imbued with AI smarts. New Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition help it understand what’s in front of it and adjust camera settings accordingly. AI Motion Detection enhances the sharpness of images, and photo-taking apps that tap into the NPU benefit from accelerated image processing. (Huawei says it can process 2,000 images per second.

The Galaxy Note 8’s rear camera, which comprises a f/1.7-aperture wide-angle lens and a f/2.4 aperture telephoto lens (both 12MP and optically stabilized), works a little differently. There’s a monochrome mode, but it’s software-based — the Note 8’s sensors are both RGB. The Note 8’s bokeh filter, Live Focus, lets you adjust the focus before or after you snap a pic. And Samsung’s Dual Shot taps the phone’s wide-angle lens to capture a close-up and a wide-angle shot simultaneously.

Despite the differences in picture-taking capabilities, it’s an even playing field between the Mate 10 Pro and Note 8 when it comes to selfies and videos. Both can shoot in 4K at 30 frames per second, and both have 8MP front cameras.

So let’s start our camera review between Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 8

The main lens resolution: Mate 10 Pro wins

In the first set of proofs during the day, Huawei Mate 10 Pro color contrast is higher, the original piece enlarged, the texture of the course, the rebound part of the Mate 10 Pro clearer, while the ground shadow is Mate 10 Pro more Clear.

Main Exposure Control: Mate 10 Pro wins

Exposure control, Note 8 does not appear Mate 10 Pro color, Note 8 Give the feeling of partial yellowish partial darkness. Mate 10 Pro like to improve brightness, but to improve the brightness at the same time, did not affect the color performance, in this set of proofs, whether it is mountain or plant.

2 Times zoom: Samsung Note8 wins

Twice the two at the same time zoom, you can see the performance of the two came 180 ° turn, Samsung Note8 screen brighter, more details, more exposure, and Mate10 Pro some dull.

Color performance: mutual victory and defeat

Due to the existence of Leica color, then the color must be Mate 10 Pro more unique, but when not in Leica mode, Mate 10 Pro is good at color palette compared to Samsung, and not less than how much more authentic, Samsung Note 8 leads a little bit more. That Note8 win where? As the Mate 10 Pro like to mention brightness, so many highlights in the part, Mate 10 Pro will look a bit overexposed, the highlighted part will also affect the local color performance to some extent, the details will be more covered with some highlights, So without opening the case of Leica, Samsung Note8 lead with a slight advantage.

Respectively, Samsung Note 8, Huawei Mate 10 Pro normal mode, Leica mode

This unique style in some scenes look really beautiful but does not rule out that some scenes will feel weird after opening. As for how to use the color power of Leica, but also depends on the user’s use of photographs. Mate 10 Pro does not turn the exposure down when Leica mode is on, but after toning it’s like adding a filter, the layers, contrast, and saturation of the picture change qualitatively, and in some scenes, you can see slight Vignette.

Since the Mate 10 Pro’s camera gives two completely different imaging styles and can not be generalized, we come to the conclusion that we have the best of both worlds. However, Samsung Note8 won is not easy when not in Leica mode.

    Macro: Mate 10 Pro wins

In macro scenes, the depth of field between the two is very close, the gap is minimal. The main difference is that the edges of the Mate 10 Pro are sharper, the details of the flowers and leaves are more, and the shots are more three-dimensional.

    Dark Light: Samsung Note8 wins

So it will lose part of the details, this time IMX333’s 1.4-micron large pixel showing an extraordinary place. In the light of almost the environment, the brightness of the two products performance is very close, after amplification, Note8 details and noise control over Mate10 Pro, Mate10 Pro picture smear more serious.

Under the dim light, the two at the same time 2 times zoom and equipped with dual OIS Optical Image Stabilizer Note8, Mate10 Pro noise and smear also followed to be enlarged.

    2 times zoom sample:

Glare Control: Mate 10 Pro wins

Another easy point to overlook is the lens of the glare control, both mobile phone lenses are clean case, at first glance the two products are not obvious light diffraction phenomenon, but after amplification found, Note8 Appearance of the pan-purple edge of the situation, while the Mate10 Pro is not such a performance, it seems Leica SUMMILUX-H’s lens quality is not a mere nameless.

Left is Samsung Note 8, right is Huawei Mate 10 Pro
Left for Samsung Note 8, right for Huawei Mate 10 Pro (enlarged detail)

Dark environment, Huawei Mate10 Pro screen noise control is still slightly inferior to Samsung Note8. Overall, through the proofs comparison of these two products, Mate10 Pro and Note8 two imaging unique director, Mate10 Pro like to mention brightness during the day, but the exposure does not affect the promotion of color performance. In the absence of Leica under the premise of the photo does not look much like the Samsung Note8 less, and once opened to open, many scenes will achieve counter-attack, but the Leica model is not necessarily suitable for all scenarios, more or according to the user’s habits To decide.

Samsung has been sitting on the Android camera photo Emperor for a long time, and now Huawei Mate10 Pro camera strength shown no less than the Samsung Note8 less, in many scenes is clearly better than the Samsung Note8, plus Leica’s color style, Only in this one photo, it can be said Huawei Mate10 Pro has been completely blunted with Samsung positive. Of course, the comparison of the above two models, belonging to the contest between the gods, the gap is often between the least bit.

In terms of overall review, we cannot say for certain yet who has the upper hand but we can assure you that both of them already performs at the top-tier level of all the smartphones out there on the market. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is priced at $928.40 while the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is priced at $974.81. What do you think? Which flagship smartphone do you prefer buying
