Desktop vs Mobile: The Best Way to Gamble Online

Since first emerging on the market in the late 1990s, online gambling has evolved tremendously. We’ve seen hundreds of new casinos and thousands of new games launch in the UK and internationally. Along with these new casinos and games, many gambling operators and casino developers have created new ways for gamers to play, and we’ve covered them all right here.

    Desktop Online Casinos

The main method of playing at an online casino is by visiting the casino website on your desktop computer or laptop. The process involves simply loading up the website, logging in, and then playing your favourite games. All casinos are compatible with modern-day web browsers, and you won’t have any issues running into incompatible games as the majority were developed with HTML5 and the more outdated titles with Flash technology.

Many people believe playing on desktop or laptop computers is the best way to play as it minimises your chance of running into issues with games or with a casino website’s accessibility. However, they’re also seen as one of the most inconvenient ways to play since, depending on your computer, desktop computers are not portable, and you’ll have to remain in one location. Laptops are somewhat easier, but they’re still not as convenient as some of the other methods we’ve listed!

    Through Tablets Or Mobile Casinos

More people than ever are now playing at casinos through either their tablet or their smartphone device. In fact, a recent survey from the UK Gambling Commission found that people prefer accessing online casinos through their mobile phones over other methods. Playing on your tablet or mobile phone is different to playing on a computer.

There are two ways to access an online casino on your mobile device; either by downloading the casino’s dedicated app to your tablet or smartphone or by loading up the mobile-friendly casino site in your smartphone’s browser. Generally speaking, most mobile casinos do not offer dedicated apps and instead push you into playing in-browser.

Unfortunately, there are drawbacks to these methods. For example, many mobile casinos haven’t updated their website to work effectively on mobile devices. In addition, some games may not run on mobile devices if they’re outdated and running on Flash technology, which smartphones have abandoned support for. Finally, if a mobile casino does run an app, it’s important to remember that installing it will take up storage on your device while playing in-browser does not.

Despite these drawbacks, many people believe that playing on mobile devices is one of the best methods as people generally bring their smartphones with them everywhere. What’s more, smartphones are usually always connected to the internet – either through a WiFi connection or phone network – and that’s all you need to play casino games.

    Virtual Reality: What’s Next?

One of the most recent advancements made within the online gambling industry has been virtual reality support. Some game developers like NetEnt released video slots playable in VR, transporting you directly to the foot of the slot’s reels and giving you a first-person look into the game. SlotsMillion also launched its very own VR casino in which you can walk around and play real-money games too.

The technology is still incredibly new and needs a lot of work, but we could eventually see more operators launch virtual online casinos that you can visit, working similarly to brick-and-mortar casinos but without space restrictions. This would be groundbreaking for the online casino industry, but it may be a while off. Until then, you’re going to need to stick with playing on computers or mobile devices – have fun!
