    How To Download Spotify Songs

Brady CottonBy Brady CottonDecember 6, 2021

Streaming has been the dominant method of consuming music for the past few years. People now want instant access to songs and playlists. With just a few clicks or taps, your favorite music will be available for you to listen to. You can visit this site for the best 70s songs that will give you a nostalgic vibe.

Among the most popular music streaming platforms today is Spotify. It boasts a vast collection of songs and podcasts from various artists and content creators worldwide. Having said that, there are still several reasons why you would need to permanently download Spotify songs or podcasts to your phone or computer.

As brilliant as Spotify is, its free account does not allow users to download music for offline listening. Only Spotify Premium subscribers can avail of the download and offline playback feature. Still, even if you are a Spotify Premium subscriber, you are only limited to playing your favorite podcasts and albums within the Spotify desktop, web, or mobile application. In order to be entirely free from the shackles of Spotify, we will explore some software utilities that can help you download your songs for playback to your other music players.

Part 1. How to Download Spotify Songs with Premium?

If you have an upcoming flight that would take hours or you are going on a glamping trip to a location that is out of telecommunications coverage, your best course of action would be to download Spotify songs to your phone or laptop computer. Here are the steps to get a version of your Spotify songs that will be available for offline playback via the Spotify app.

Note that a crucial prerequisite for downloading and offline playback from the Spotify application is a Spotify subscription. Please make sure to subscribe to Spotify Premium if you haven’t done so yet.

Once subscribed, follow the steps listed in the following section. The procedure below is divided into two parts: the first part is downloading to a mobile phone while the second part is downloading to your computer. Be advised that the PC version of the Spotify app only allows download of whole playlists. You cannot download albums and podcasts. If you want those two, you have to download them from your mobile phone.

Download Spotify Songs to Android Phone or iPhone

Step 1.  From your phone, tap on the Spotify application to open it. Once launched, sign in to your Spotify Premium account.

Step 2. Locate the Your Library tab in the bottom right part of your screen. Gently tap on it to launch three tabs, namelyPlaylists, Artists, and Albums. After that, select the playlist you intend to download.

Step 3. With the playlist open, press the Download button. The toggle button will turn green, and the label will show ‘Downloading Songs’ to indicate that your download is now in progress.

Step 4. Once the download of your songs is completed, you will see an arrow icon pointing downwards. This indicates that the song has been downloaded and can now be played offline.

Download Spotify Songs to Your Computer

Step 1. From a Windows PC or a Mac, launch your Spotify desktop application.

Step 2. Search for and then select the playlist you intend to download

Step 3. Click on the download toggle button. It should turn green to indicate that downloading has commenced.

Step 4. Once the playlist is downloaded, you will see a green symbol next to it to signify that the songs within it are now available for offline playback.

Note: To find your audio files after download, go to Settings. Next, click Show Advanced Settings and then Offline Songs Storage.

Great. You just learned how to download Spotify songs for offline playback by taking advantage of your Spotify Premium subscription. We will check out several other ways to download your music files even without a Spotify Premium subscription in the next section.

Part 2. How to Download Spotify Songs without Premium?

In the previous section, you got a glimpse of how to download songs with a Spotify Premium subscription. Unfortunately, not all users have a Spotify Premium subscription. Also, as previously noted in the introduction of this article, you can only play Spotify-downloaded songs from a Spotify application. In the following parts, we will dig deeper into some other options to permanently download Spotify songs and use them in other music players not supporting the Spotify app.

    Use DumpMedia Spotify Music Converter

DumpMedia Spotify Music Converter is a prime and full-featured Spotify converter. It strips off DRM protection from Spotify music files and converts them to the target audio file format at turbocharged speeds. Depending on your computer hardware and operating system, you can get up to 5 times faster conversion speeds compared to other tools like AllToMP3.

In addition to that, you will retain the ID3 tags and other metadata of your songs, like artist information and album covers. You can also select the target output format from MP3, FLAC, WAV, and M4A.

Below is a quick guide on how to download Spotify songs with DumpMedia Spotify Music Converter.

Step 1: If not already installed, go to the DumpMedia website, download the correct installer for your system, and run the installer. Once installed, launch the DumpMedia Spotify Music Converter application.

Step 2: Choose the Spotify songs you want to be converted and set the target output format. If you wish to transfer and play your songs on various devices not supporting the Spotify app, you should choose MP3.

Step 3: Click the Convert button in the application’s interface and sit back as the conversion process happens. Depending on the hardware specifications of your desktop PC, expect speeds up to 5 times more compared to other software available online.

    Use AMusicSoft Spotify Music Converter

AMusicSoft Spotify Music Converter is very similar to DumpMedia Spotify Music Converter in the features that it offers. DRM Removal, retaining ID3 tags, and support for multiple output formats.  This tool is another good option if you find the need to download Spotify songs.

Compared to DumpMedia, they only offer Music Converters for Spotify and Apple Music. If you happen to have other needs aside from Spotify music conversion, then you might be better off going with DumpMedia as they also have video downloaders, image and file compression utilities, and an Audible converter.

    Use AllToMP3

AllToMP3 is a desktop software available for Windows, macOS, and Linux which supports downloading and converting music from Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, and Deezer. The output format is only in MP3 and is fixed at 256 kb/s. It allows searching for songs from its main user interface for easier navigation and download. However, one of its main drawbacks is the slow speed of conversion. Nevertheless, this tool should be more than enough for simple use cases.

    Part 3. Summary

Knowing several tools to use in a particular situation is definitely an advantage. For the cases where you need to download Spotify songs, the previous sections laid out several options for you.

First, you learned the specific steps needed to download playlists, albums, and artists using Spotify Premium. After that, we also reviewed several tools that offer downloading and converting songs from Spotify.

We checked out a free and open-source tool named AllToMP3, which offers several useful features but lacks the premium features most power users will need. The conversion speed is also slow for this tool, and it has a tendency to make your computer hang up.

We also zoned into similar tools like AMusicSoft Spotify Music Converter and DumpMedia Spotify Music Converter. They have more or less the same set of features. Based on our research and investigation of many tools available in the market today, we recommend DumpMedia Spotify Music Converter. In our benchmarking tests, it offered top-of-the-class speeds during downloading, DRM removal, and conversion to open formats like MP3.
