Board Games You Need to Try Out in 2021

Every year brings with it new and exciting board games to try with your friends, partner, or family. They bring people together and create an opportunity for a budget-friendly night in.

When it comes to trying new board games, it’s always fun to take advantage of new releases. However, there are a lot of timeless classics that you should try out as well. Here are some of the best board games to add to your list for 2021.

    Dungeon Mayhem: Monster Madness

Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Mayhem: Monster Madness is the latest release in the D&D collection. This family-friendly game uses artistic illustrations and an easy-to-follow structure to create a fun game that has a lot of replayability. Rated at ages 8+, this is a great game to introduce your family to Dungeons & Dragons before heading to D20Collective.com and creating a campaign.

During this game, you’ll play as one of six child-friendly monsters, like Mimi LeChaise or Lord Cinderpuff. Use your skills to battle your foes and survive.

    The Hygge Game

The Hygge Game is a unique board game based around the popular Hygge movement, which is meant to create enjoyment in life. While this movement usually applies to how you furnish your home, with coziness and relaxation being a top priority, the game takes a more social approach.

While this game doesn’t follow the usual format of winners and losers, it’s a great way to get to know the people in your life a little better and spark a genuine conversation.

    Bosk

There have been a few games that take players into the forest in recent years. Photosynthesis has received acclaim for being beautiful to play, while Shadows in the Forest adds a darker, unique twist.

Bosk is another forest-style game you’ll want to try in 2021. In this strategy game, the goal is to dominate the park with your flowers. The twist is in the changing seasons, where the objectives and materials change.

There are two building seasons and two scoring seasons. In the spring, you work to cultivate your beautiful forest, scoring points in the summer based on how many hikers you attract. In the fall, you try and cover the grounds of the other players’ areas with leaves and gain points for your efforts during the winter.

This magical, immersive game is pure strategy and pure fun.

    Silver & Gold

Silver & Gold is a relatively new game that’s great for taking on the road. It invokes essences of tic-tac-toe and Battleship, using a series of laminated cards and dry erase markers. The game is largely luck-based but fast-paced and fun.

The game operates like Tetris. When a card is drawn, you are able to mark out that shape on your treasure card however you see fit. A filled out treasure card gains you points. As you go through the rounds, you fill cards to the best of your ability until the game is complete. When you’re done, wipe them down and try again.

Betrayal at House on the Hill

Betrayal at House on the Hill is a little taste of horror in a fun, safe setting. You and your cohorts enter a haunted house, each playing the role of a common horror stage piece.

The House is built up tile by tile, with the players drawing event cards and falling victim to the horror within. In a Clue-like twist, one of the players is secretly working against the others. The object of the game is to identify and defeat them before they take you out.

When it comes to board games, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re planning a night in with friends or a family games night, trying a new board game is a great way to bring everyone together.
