    How to Calculate Puffs per Bottle of E-Liquid: A Simple Guide

    When buying e-liquid, many vapers want to know how long a bottle will last. One useful way to estimate this is by calculating the approximate number of puffs available from a bottle of e-liquid.

    Unlike disposable vapes, e-liquid bottles usually don’t provide a fixed puff count. The actual number of puffs depends on the amount of e-liquid consumed with each draw, your device’s power, coil resistance, airflow, and how long you inhale.

    This guide explains how to estimate puffs per bottle of e-liquid using a simple formula.

    What Determines the Number of Puffs?

    Several factors affect how much e-liquid is consumed per puff:

    1. E-Liquid Bottle Size

    The first factor is the amount of e-liquid in the bottle.

    Common bottle sizes include:

    • 10ml
    • 30ml
    • 50ml
    • 60ml
    • 100ml
    • 120ml

    Naturally, a larger bottle can provide more total puffs, assuming the same vaping conditions.

    2. E-Liquid Consumption per Puff

    The most important variable is how much e-liquid your device uses during each puff.

    For example, if a setup consumes approximately 0.01ml per puff, a 10ml bottle could theoretically provide:

    10ml ÷ 0.01ml = 1,000 puffs

    However, this is only an estimate.

    3. Puff Duration

    Longer draws generally consume more e-liquid.

    For example, a short 1–2 second puff may use significantly less liquid than a 4–5 second draw.

    Therefore, two people using the same device and e-liquid bottle can get very different numbers of puffs.

    4. Device Power

    Higher wattage generally increases vapor production and can increase e-liquid consumption.

    A low-power pod may consume relatively little e-liquid per puff, while a high-powered sub-ohm device can use substantially more.

    5. Coil Resistance

    Coil resistance also affects consumption.

    Lower-resistance coils are often used at higher power levels and can produce larger amounts of vapor. As a result, they may consume e-liquid faster than higher-resistance coils operated at lower power.


    The Basic Puff Calculation Formula

    The simplest formula is:

    Estimated Puffs = Bottle Volume ÷ E-Liquid Used per Puff

    Both measurements need to use the same unit.

    For example:

    30ml bottle ÷ 0.01ml per puff = 3,000 puffs

    Therefore, under those specific assumptions, a 30ml bottle could provide approximately 3,000 puffs.

    Remember that this is an estimate, not a guaranteed number.

    Example Calculations

    Here are some theoretical examples:

    Bottle Size Estimated Liquid per Puff Approx. Puffs
    10ml 0.01ml 1,000
    30ml 0.01ml 3,000
    50ml 0.01ml 5,000
    60ml 0.01ml 6,000
    100ml 0.01ml 10,000
    120ml 0.01ml 12,000

    These numbers are mathematical examples, not manufacturer-rated puff counts.

    If your device consumes 0.02ml per puff instead, the estimated number of puffs would be approximately half as many.

    For example:

    60ml ÷ 0.02ml = 3,000 puffs


    How to Estimate E-Liquid Consumption More Accurately

    If you want a more realistic estimate, you can measure how much e-liquid your device actually consumes.

    Step 1: Fill Your Tank or Pod

    Fill your tank or pod to a known level.

    For example, start with 2ml of e-liquid.

    Step 2: Record Your Puff Count

    Use the device normally and record the number of puffs until the measured amount of e-liquid has been consumed.

    Suppose you use 2ml over 200 puffs.

    Step 3: Calculate Consumption per Puff

    Use:

    2ml ÷ 200 puffs = 0.01ml per puff

    Step 4: Calculate Your Bottle’s Estimated Puff Count

    If you have a 60ml bottle:

    60ml ÷ 0.01ml = 6,000 puffs

    This method is generally more useful than relying on a generic estimate because it is based on your own device and vaping habits.


    How Many Puffs Does 10ml of E-Liquid Provide?

    There is no universal answer.

    A 10ml bottle might theoretically provide hundreds or thousands of puffs depending on the device and user’s puffing style.

    For example:

    • At 0.005ml per puff → approximately 2,000 puffs
    • At 0.01ml per puff → approximately 1,000 puffs
    • At 0.02ml per puff → approximately 500 puffs

    This demonstrates why simply saying “10ml equals X puffs” can be misleading.


    How Many Puffs Does 30ml of E-Liquid Provide?

    Using the same examples:

    • 0.005ml/puff: about 6,000 puffs
    • 0.01ml/puff: about 3,000 puffs
    • 0.02ml/puff: about 1,500 puffs

    The actual result depends heavily on the setup.

    A compact pod operating at relatively low power may consume considerably less liquid than a high-powered direct-to-lung device.


    How Many Puffs Does 100ml of E-Liquid Provide?

    For a 100ml bottle:

    100ml ÷ 0.01ml = 10,000 puffs

    But if consumption increases to 0.02ml per puff:

    100ml ÷ 0.02ml = 5,000 puffs

    Again, these are estimates rather than guaranteed figures.


    Does VG/PG Ratio Affect Puff Count?

    Yes, potentially.

    VG (vegetable glycerin) and PG (propylene glycol) have different physical properties and are used for different vaping characteristics.

    Higher-VG e-liquids are commonly associated with larger vapor production, particularly when used with appropriate high-power hardware. Greater vapor production can correspond to higher e-liquid consumption.

    However, VG/PG ratio alone cannot accurately predict puff count. Device power, coil design and puff duration generally have a much larger influence on consumption.


    Does Nicotine Strength Affect Puffs per Bottle?

    Nicotine strength does not directly determine how many puffs a bottle contains.

    For example, two 60ml bottles with different nicotine concentrations still contain approximately the same total volume of liquid.

    However, nicotine concentration can influence how a person uses the device. Someone using a lower nicotine concentration may take more frequent or longer puffs, potentially increasing e-liquid consumption.

    For nicotine-containing products, remember that nicotine is addictive and these products should only be used by adults who are legally permitted to purchase them.


    E-Liquid vs. Disposable Vape Puff Counts

    It’s important not to directly compare a bottle’s estimated puff count with the advertised puff count of a disposable vape.

    A disposable vape manufacturer may calculate its advertised puff count under specific testing conditions. Actual performance varies depending on draw duration and other factors.

    With bottled e-liquid, there is an additional variable: the device.

    The same 60ml bottle can produce very different numbers of puffs depending on whether it is used in a low-power pod or a high-powered sub-ohm tank.


    A Quick Formula You Can Use

    If you know your device’s approximate liquid consumption:

    Puffs per Bottle = Bottle Size (ml) ÷ Liquid Consumption per Puff (ml)

    For example:

    50ml ÷ 0.0125ml = 4,000 puffs

    Therefore, the estimated output would be approximately 4,000 puffs.

    If you don’t know your device’s consumption per puff, you can measure it experimentally by tracking the amount of e-liquid consumed over a known number of puffs.


    How Long Will a Bottle of E-Liquid Last?

    Puff count isn’t the only useful measurement. You can also estimate how many days a bottle will last.

    For example, suppose your device consumes approximately 0.01ml per puff, and you take 200 puffs per day.

    Daily consumption would be:

    200 × 0.01ml = 2ml per day

    A 60ml bottle would therefore last approximately:

    60ml ÷ 2ml = 30 days

    This is still an estimate because daily puff counts and puff lengths can change.

    Final Thoughts

    Calculating puffs per bottle of e-liquid is relatively simple, but there is no universal puff count for a particular bottle size.

    The most reliable formula is:

    Estimated Puffs = Bottle Volume ÷ E-Liquid Used per Puff

    For the best estimate, measure your actual e-liquid consumption because your device, coil, wattage, airflow and puff duration can all significantly affect the result.

    Ultimately, bottle volume tells you how much e-liquid you have, while your vaping setup determines how quickly you use it. By combining those two measurements, you can get a much more realistic estimate of how many puffs—and how many days—your e-liquid bottle may provide.
