iPhone XS Max Does Not Beat the Huawei P20 Pro, According to DxOMark

During the presentation of the iPhone XS and XS Max, Apple has focused a lot on the cameras of the new iPhone: not so much for the sensors, which remain similar to last year, as for the excellent software processing guaranteed by the Neural Engine Apple SoC A12 Bionic. In this regard, the DxOMark team has tested the new iPhone XS Max and confirms the important leap forward from the previous generation.

The well-known photo portal has assigned the new Apple iPhone top a score of 105 (110 for photos, 98 for videos). This brings the iPhone XS Max to the 2nd place in the standings: it has surpassed almost all the most important camera phones in the Android world, but not Huawei P20 Pro which remains in the lead with its 109 points. In any case, we remind you that the DxOMark evaluations are the result of subjective analysis and do not represent a universal scale in terms of photographic quality.

With these prerequisites, among the pros of the iPhone XS Max on the photographic front, the DxOMark team highlights the very high level of exposure and dynamic range , good quality of details in all conditions, vivid and gratifying colors in most situations , fast and accurate autofocus and excellent isolation of the subject in bokeh mode. Among the cons, reports an image often underexposed in shots with flash and noise in the photos in low light, with zoom or high-contrast scenes.

As for the video, however, iPhone XS Max sins for occasional problems of white balance in indoor shooting and noise in low light conditions. As for the video pro, the DxOMark team signals a very wide dynamic range, excellent image stabilization, fast autofocus, and good detail.

In conclusion, DxOMark claims that the iPhone XS Max is one of the best camera-phones ever tested, with major improvements compared to iPhone X and excellent quality for both photos and video, which loses only a few points compared to P20 Pro in shots with low light and zoom.
