During IFA 2019, there was controversy about the new generation of Kirin processors. The names include Kirin 990 and Kirin 985. In the end, Huawei released only Kirin 990 and Kirin 990 5G processors, but Kirin 985 chipset seems to have them.
In August 2019, a Chinese website IT House reported that a Huawei PPT showed that 2019 is the first year of 5G commercial use. Huawei has built an absolute leading 5G advantage. Among them, the end-to-end fully self-developed chip includes the Teana base station chip, Kirin 985 / Balong 5000 terminal chip and so on. Here we saw the figure of Huawei Kirin 985 for the first time.
Recently, Weibo blogger @ 长安 数码 君 shared a piece of news which reveals that the Huawei Kirin 985 chip (temporarily named) is coming soon. This is a different chip from the Kirin 820 5G. Previously, Honor has officially announced that it will release the Honor 30S on March 30, and it will be equipped with the Kirin 820 5G processor for the first time.
According to foreign media, Huawei Central predicts that Huawei is likely to launch the Kirin 985 5G with Huawei nova 7 and nova 7 Pro. Currently, there’s still no confirmation on what Huawei is planning to do with this new Kirin chipset. But we’ll keep you posted on this matter.
