Qualcomm has confirmed that its latest Snapdragon 875 SoC will be officially released in December and could appear in smartphones in January 2021, which is around 2 months earlier than previous years. Not surprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy S21 series is still the first to launch the Snapdragon 875 in the world, and Xiaomi Mi 11 is the first to launch in China.
Not only is the Snapdragon 875 fixed, but the follow-up Snapdragon processor is also on the way. It is rumored that the Snapdragon 885 will be routinely held in 2021. The current specifications are unknown, but it will continue to use Samsung’s 5nm process, and it may be an improved version of the 5nm LPP process.
It will be the turn of the Snapdragon 895 in 2022. Of course, there are no detailed specifications, but the technology of the process will change. Qualcomm is likely to switch back to TSMC’s foundry on this generation of chips, just like the Snapdragon 855/865.
The Snapdragon 895 is likely to use TSMC’s 4nm process. In fact, it is an improved version of the 5nm process. The design is compatible with 5nm, and there will be more EUV mask layers. However, specific performance and power consumption have changed greatly.
Sadly, there are no more rumors about the Snapdragon 885/895, we have to wait till further news and leaks come out.
