Vivo X500 Series Officially Set to Launch on September 21 With Major Imaging Upgrades

vivo has officially confirmed that its next flagship camera phone lineup, the vivo X500 series, vivo flagship phones will launch in China on September 21. The announcement was made during the vivo Creator Festival in Yantai on September 7, where the company revealed a broad overview of its upcoming imaging technology.

The event focused heavily on the new vivo Blueprint Imaging platform, covering camera hardware, computational photography, video recording, color science, AI, and creative tools. vivo also outlined its longer-term approach to smartphone imaging, with creators remaining at the center of its development strategy.

vivo X500 Focuses on Professional Mobile Photography

According to vivo, the X500 series is designed to make advanced photography and video creation easier for everyday users. The company is continuing a dual-track development strategy that combines its own research with partnerships across the imaging industry, including its long-running collaboration with ZEISS.

vivo says it has integrated portrait photography, motion imaging and AI into a more complete imaging system. The goal is to help users capture difficult scenes more reliably while reducing the amount of manual work required after shooting.

The company is positioning the X500 lineup around two major goals: delivering a strong still-image experience while also providing a more professional video platform.

    New Blueprint LightGuard 900 Sensor

One of the biggest hardware announcements concerns the Blueprint LightGuard 900 sensor, which will make its global debut on the X500 Pro series.

Combined with vivo’s high-dynamic-range imaging technology, the sensor is claimed to deliver up to 17 stops of dynamic range, which is high-dynamic-range camera technology in actual output. This should help the camera retain more detail in scenes containing both bright highlights and dark areas.

The X500 Pro series will also introduce 4K 240fps slow-motion recording and 4K 120fps HDR video. With the company’s VCS 4.0 technology, vivo is also targeting cleaner image quality in low-light video situations.

CIPA 7-Axis Stabilization for Main and Telephoto Cameras

Stabilization is another major area of improvement. vivo says both the main camera and periscope telephoto camera on the X500 series will support CIPA 7-level professional stabilization.

The system is designed to recognize different types of movement and apply compensation accordingly. This could be particularly useful for handheld photography, moving subjects and telephoto shooting, where even small hand movements can have a noticeable effect on image sharpness.

Advanced Telephoto Imaging and AI Reconstruction

Long-range photography remains a major focus of the X500 series. vivo is introducing RAW-domain generative reconstruction technology, combining on-device processing with cloud-based AI models.

The on-device model is intended to keep image processing fast, while cloud-based processing can be used to push image quality further when additional computational resources are available.

The vivo X500 Pro Max will also support the same 400mm telephoto extender used by the Ultra lineup. Combined with a 200MP APO super-telephoto camera developed with ZEISS, the setup is designed to provide greater detail at extreme focal lengths.

vivo has also worked with MediaTek on a telephoto tracking system. It can assist with composition and maintain focus on a moving subject, while posture recognition can automatically capture moments that might otherwise be missed.

The company says its work on long-telephoto bokeh has also gained academic recognition, with research from the vivo Blueprint Imaging Lab selected for the final round of the CVPR Best Paper competition.

New Color Profiles and Film-Inspired Styles

Color science will be another important part of the X500 imaging experience. vivo is continuing with two main color philosophies: Blueprint Vivid Color for bright and energetic images, and Blueprint Native Color for users who want a more natural foundation for advanced editing.

The X500 series will introduce an upgraded cinematic color style, designed to give photos a more distinctive visual mood.

vivo is also introducing a new Humanistic Silver Halide style inspired by the look and storytelling qualities of film photography. The company is expanding its imaging work beyond conventional smartphone photography as well.

In partnership with Xinhua News Agency and several cultural institutions, vivo has developed imaging solutions covering original artifact colors, glare reduction and artifact reconstruction. These technologies are intended to support digital preservation and wider online presentation of cultural heritage.

    More Natural Portrait Photography

Portrait photography is receiving another round of upgrades. vivo says the X500 series is designed to preserve realistic skin texture and facial details rather than relying on overly aggressive beautification.

An upgraded native portrait system works with improved GTR technology to produce more natural facial lighting and greater depth in portraits.

The new flash portrait system will also support multiple focal lengths, giving users more flexibility when taking portraits in darker environments.

AI Becomes Part of the Camera Experience

vivo is integrating AI more deeply into the camera interface. The X500 series will be able to analyze the shooting situation and recommend appropriate functions based on the scene.

The system can also help users find better compositions and suggest posing options, effectively turning the camera interface into an intelligent creative assistant.

A new Album Inspiration Editing feature will provide another layer of AI-assisted editing. Users can issue voice commands in natural language, while vivo’s internally developed large model, trained using millions of professional aesthetic data points, can recommend color adjustments according to the characteristics of a particular photo.

The company says its flagship platform, developed through close collaboration with MediaTek, achieves 99.5% accuracy for intent analysis while reducing related power consumption by up to 50%.

    Professional Log Video Recording

Video recording is arguably one of the most ambitious parts of the X500 upgrade.

vivo is introducing an upgraded cinematic high-dynamic-range Log video system, with the Blueprint LightGuard 900 sensor supporting a claimed 17-stop dynamic range. The company is positioning this capability closer to professional filmmaking workflows.

The system supports 10-bit 4:2:2 encoding and the ACES color-coding system, with support planned for a future version of DaVinci Resolve.

The X500 series will also feature a dedicated professional Log video hardware solution. Powered by a new 2nm MediaTek Dimensity platform, the phone can record 4K 120fps 10-bit Log video directly, while vivo has also worked to control power consumption and heat generation during extended recording.

4K 240fps Slow Motion and Up to 4K 120fps Tracking

Slow-motion video is another highlight of the X500 Pro series. vivo says the phone will support native 4K 240fps cinematic slow motion.

With AI-based motion trajectory prediction, the system can further produce an effect equivalent to 4K 960fps extreme slow motion, creating significantly slower playback for fast-moving subjects.

The upgraded video autofocus system combines vivo’s proprietary technology with high NPU computing power. It can support subject tracking at up to 4K 120fps, helping keep the main subject in focus during fast action.

Dolby Portrait Video and Smarter Composition

vivo will also introduce 4K Dolby portrait video, bringing portrait enhancement together with HDR video production standards.

A cinematic composition and camera movement feature can automatically lock onto the main subject and adjust framing in real time. Meanwhile, the Film Workshop feature is designed to give creators additional tools for editing and producing more cinematic-looking footage.

AI-Powered Highlight Videos and 8K Live Photos

The X500 series will use the upgraded NPU capabilities of the new 2nm Dimensity platform to improve its AI video highlight generation feature.

The phone will also support upgraded 4K native cinematic Live Photos, with multiple cinematic color profiles available for different visual styles.

vivo is additionally introducing 8K cinematic Live Photos, which are designed to preserve more detail when viewed at larger sizes. The company says multiple social media platforms will support uploading 8K Live content.

    vivo X500 Series Launch Date

The vivo X500 series will officially launch on September 21. Based on the information announced so far, vivo is placing a particularly strong emphasis on camera hardware, telephoto photography, professional video recording, color science and AI-assisted creation.

With features such as the new LightGuard 900 sensor, 17-stop dynamic range, CIPA 7-level stabilization, 4K 240fps slow motion, 4K 120fps Log video and AI-powered editing, the X500 series appears to be targeting users who want a more capable mobile camera system without moving to dedicated professional equipment.
