Xiaomi 18 Pro Launches With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Rear Display, Starts at 5,999 Yuan

Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi 18 Pro in China at its autumn product event on September 23. The new flagship starts at 5,999 yuan and combines a 2nm flagship processor, a 7,000mAh battery, a 200MP Leica camera system, a high-brightness display and an upgraded rear screen.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro is also one of the first smartphones to use Qualcomm’s new-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 mobile platform. The phone brings several major upgrades across performance, battery capacity, cameras, display technology and privacy features.

Xiaomi 18 Pro Price and Storage Options

The Xiaomi 18 Pro is available in four configurations in China:

    • 12GB + 256GB: 5,999 yuan
    • 12GB + 512GB: 6,999 yuan
    • 16GB + 512GB: 7,999 yuan
    • 16GB + 1TB: 8,999 yuan

This gives buyers several memory and storage combinations, with the 1TB version targeting users who need more space for high-resolution photos, videos and large applications.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Brings 2nm Performance

One of the biggest highlights of the Xiaomi 18 Pro is its processor.

The phone debuts with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, manufactured using a new-generation 2nm flagship process. Xiaomi says the processor reaches a maximum CPU frequency of 5GHz, while the GPU delivers up to a 35% performance improvement with power consumption reduced by as much as 40%.

The NPU is also designed for on-device AI workloads, with Xiaomi claiming an 80% improvement in AI inference performance and a 15% increase in overall computing capability.

The combination of a 2nm process and stronger AI processing gives the Xiaomi 18 Pro a hardware foundation aimed at demanding gaming, imaging and generative-AI workloads. If you want to understand how the new platform compares with previous flagship chips, check out our guide to Snapdragon flagship processors and mobile performance. The broader Xiaomi 18 Pro series has also been reported with different Snapdragon variants, with the Pro Max positioned around a higher-performance version of the same generation.

7,000mAh Battery With High Silicon Content

Battery capacity is another major upgrade.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro uses Xiaomi’s new-generation Jinshajiang battery, which features up to 32% silicon content and increases capacity to 7,000mAh.

For a flagship smartphone with a high-refresh-rate display, powerful processor and advanced camera hardware, the larger battery is intended to provide more endurance without requiring an unusually large conventional battery pack.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro also supports UWB connectivity, expanding its potential for short-range device interaction and smart-device integration.

The phone additionally carries IP66, IP68 and IP69 protection ratings, giving it a higher level of resistance against dust and different forms of water exposure.

6.4-Inch Display With 4,000-Nit Peak Brightness

    The Xiaomi 18 Pro features a 6.4-inch display using Xiaomi’s latest M11 light-emitting technology and a new green-emitting material.

The panel uses a full RGB pixel arrangement and reaches a claimed peak brightness of 4,000 nits. For more information about Xiaomi’s latest display technology, see our guide to Xiaomi flagship displays and high-brightness smartphone screens.

One of the more noticeable design improvements is the extremely narrow bezel. Xiaomi’s new screen-packaging technology reduces the four surrounding bezels to approximately 0.99mm, creating a more immersive front-facing appearance. Other reports also confirm the 0.99mm bezel design and new M11 display technology.

The chassis uses a large micro-curved four-sided frame, giving the phone a softer visual profile and a more rounded feel in the hand.

    Hardware-Level Privacy Display

Xiaomi is also introducing a hardware-level privacy display system on the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

When privacy protection is enabled, the screen is designed to restrict viewing from wider angles while maintaining clarity for the person looking directly at the display.

The system can be customized for individual applications. Xiaomi says users can apply privacy protection to areas involving notifications, floating windows and multitasking interfaces, with pixel-level tracking for protected regions.

A customizable AI button can also be used to activate system-wide privacy protection quickly.

This feature is particularly interesting for people who frequently use their phones in public places such as trains, airports, offices and cafes.

Triple Leica Camera System With Two 200MP Sensors

Photography is another major focus of the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

The phone features a Leica-branded triple-camera system covering multiple focal lengths.

    The setup includes:

    • 200MP Leica main camera with a 1/1.28-inch Light Hunter 960 sensor
    • 200MP Leica telephoto camera with a 1/1.56-inch Samsung HP5 sensor
    • 50MP Leica ultra-wide camera using an OV51D sensor

The telephoto camera offers an equivalent focal length of approximately 75mm and supports close focusing from around 12cm, allowing the same camera to handle both telephoto photography and close-up macro shots.

The large 200MP sensors give Xiaomi more flexibility when processing high-resolution images, particularly for cropping and computational photography. Xiaomi has also emphasized the improved light-gathering capability of the new telephoto camera.

AI Photography Goes Beyond Image Enhancement

The Xiaomi 18 Pro introduces a new “Legendary Moment” large-model imaging feature.

According to Xiaomi, this mode preserves original sensor data during capture and supports three classic camera styles processed on the device. Cloud-based processing is also promoted as a way to reproduce a more traditional optical-camera look.

Another feature called AI Photo Assistant is designed to help users compose photos automatically.

It can identify a location and recommend popular shooting positions, analyze the composition, suggest filters and provide guidance for posing.

Instead of simply applying an AI filter after a photo has been taken, Xiaomi is positioning these functions as an assistant that can influence how the picture is captured in the first place.

The Rear Display Gets More Useful

Perhaps the most distinctive physical feature of the Xiaomi 18 Pro is its integrated rear display.

Rather than treating the secondary screen as a simple notification panel, Xiaomi has expanded it into a broader interactive area.

The rear display supports dynamic notifications and a feature called AI Custom Rear Display, which can generate personalized themes involving pets, celebrities and cultural artwork.

Users can also take photos and turn them into customized wallpapers designed to match their phone cases.

Xiaomi says more than 100 rear-display application cards will be available initially. These include quick tools, notification functions and small games.

The concept builds on Xiaomi’s previous rear-display approach while expanding the number of things users can actually do with the secondary screen. Earlier reports had already identified the rear display as one of the central design features of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series.

    Stronger Haptic Feedback

The Xiaomi 18 Pro also upgrades its vibration system.

The phone uses a 7514 linear motor, with Xiaomi claiming a 75% increase in instantaneous vibration output.

Its new ultra-wideband Cyber Engine is designed to support 26 categories and 183 scenarios, allowing Xiaomi to tune vibration effects more precisely for different interactions.

This could make notifications, typing, gaming controls and system animations feel more differentiated than on conventional vibration motors.

Xiaomi 18 Pro: A Flagship Built Around More Than One Feature

The Xiaomi 18 Pro is not defined by a single specification.

Its biggest upgrades cover several areas at once: the new 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform, a 7,000mAh silicon-enhanced battery, a 6.4-inch 4,000-nit display, dual 200MP Leica cameras and a more capable rear display.

The rear screen remains the most visually distinctive part of the design, while the new processor and battery address two of the more practical concerns with flagship smartphones: performance and endurance.

The camera system is also particularly ambitious, pairing a large 200MP main sensor with a 200MP telephoto camera rather than relying on resolution only for the primary camera.

With a starting price of 5,999 yuan, the Xiaomi 18 Pro enters China’s flagship market with a combination of high-end processing hardware, large battery capacity, advanced imaging and a secondary rear display that clearly separates it from conventional smartphones.

For buyers interested in the next generation of Android flagship hardware, the Xiaomi 18 Pro is therefore one of Xiaomi’s most feature-heavy numbered-series launches to date.
