Folding smartphones are increasingly entering the market after overcoming the technological leaps that imply the ability to be foldable. According to the Digital Chat Station, both Xiaomi and Huawei will adopt the new Ultra-Thin Glass or UTG technology for their future flexible devices.
Until now, UTG technology has been used only on the Galaxy Z Flip. The flexible panel of this smartphone is made of glass polymer material that is more durable than that used in the Galaxy Fold.
Until now the only Xiaomi smartphone that incorporates a folded screen is the Mi Mix Alpha, with the exception that this terminal mounts a folded glass screen that cannot be folded. With this new technology, the future series of this range as well as the future folding smartphones of the Chinese brand will be able to use more durable folding screens.
Some rumors place Xiaomi’s first folding smartphone aimed at the general public at the end of this year. Last 2019 we were able to see its first prototype and Lei Jun assured that this technology was still in development and was too expensive for mass production.
We will see if a year later and with the steps taken in its Mix Alpha, Xiaomi presents us with this future folding smartphone whose price is more affordable than the $6000 of this prototype that few people have been able to buy.
