A guide on how to install SSD

SSD or solid state drive confers many benefits in terms of expanded storage and fast transfer speed. Though HDD is also a good option for storage, it may not have impressive data speed like the one provided by SSD. As SSD consists of flash memory chips, it can access all the data at the same time. You can expect faster speed as compared to HDD, as HDD relies on a spinning platter and arm. This can lead to mechanical failure and delays. If you would like to go for an SSD, there are many options spread over a range of prices. It is easy to install an SSD on your PC for extracting maximum benefit from the storage.

SSD can allow you to store data with a capacity of up to 8TB. It is a good choice for storing sensitive data such as operating systems, intensive applications, images, videos, and media. You can find out the right purpose in terms of speed and capacity. Options such as M.2 SSD are smaller in size and can deliver incredible speed. SSDs have an advantage of transferring data at a speed of 3500MB/s that can change the overall productivity.

    Checking connectivity before installing SSD

Before picking an SSD, you can check the compatibility with the motherboard. Some SSDs are connected by SATA cable. While the newer upgrades may offer a PCIe slot for easier and faster transfer. Most PCs have 3.5-inch slots for inserting additional hard drives. As SSDs have 2.5-inch in width, you would need a mounting bracket in order to fit it into the slot.

The SATA connectors are used for connecting the SSD to the motherboard. They are available in three versions- 1,2, and 3. Each one differs with respect to the speed of data transfer. SATA 1 can transfer 1.5Gbps, 2 can transfer 3Gbps, while 3 can transfer up to 6Gbps. There is no issue even if your PC does not contain SATA 3. If your primary aim is to have larger capacity and ease of connectivity, you can achieve these goals with SSD. SSDs can reduce the latency when compared with HDD, making it a better option for higher productivity.

The easiest way to add storage space is to attach an external drive to the PC. The only drawback being that it would require space around the computer. Also, there can be clutter due to the additional wires and cables. If your PC has slots for adding additional disk, you can always insert the SSD inside the computer.

    How to install SSD

You can pick the right option of SSD after careful consideration of speed, capacity, form, data security, and price.

Step 1: Turn the power off before installing the SSD. You can unscrew the back panel of the motherboard with the help of a screwdriver. After unscrewing, you may need to pull the panel with a slight force to unlatch it. It is necessary to get a clear view of the motherboard’s SATA ports and hard disk bays for easy accessibility.

Step 2: Keep a mounting bracket ready for inserting the port. Place the SSD into the mounting bracket and screw it tightly. Pick the assembly of the mounting bracket and SSD line and position it into a spare 3.5-inch hard disk bay.

Step 3: Connect one end of the SATA cable to the SSD and other end to the spare SATA port. Verify the cables are secured and connected at the right spot. Also make sure that no other cables are accidently unplugged while inserting the SSD port.

Step 4: You can close the back panel and secure it tightly. Turn the power on.

Step 5: In order to install Windows 10 on the SSD, you can insert a USB or DVD stick containing Windows 10. Select the USB from the list of hardware and follow instructions to download it. If you would like to transfer the old files, documents, videos, images, and other data to the SSD, you can select the individual files and transfer them.

To check the setting of the SSD, you can go to the Control Panel and disk management. Scroll the disk management window till you find your particular disk.

As SSD offers the benefit of faster speed, you can save programs and operating systems on the SSD. If you use any specific applications or programs frequently, you can save them on the SSD. The remaining bulk data can remain on the hard drive. If you run into low capacity on the SSD, you can take a look at the usability and transfer the necessary options to the hard drive.

    Advantages of SSD

When you run any applications, a processor seeks information from the storage. The information is transferred from the storage to the memory for a short-term. SSD contain integrated circuits or memory chips that can store all the data. When the processor requires the data, the SSD can present and transfer all the information in a short while. As there are no moving parts or delay, you can expect quick transfer.

The prices of SSDs continue to fall, making it easy to opt for one. If you work with large volumes of data, you would notice a significant jump in the performance. You can opt for a one large SSD or use it as a separate small SSD to enhance the existing system. There are different types of SSD based on speed, capacity, and connectivity. The SSDs that require SATA connection may not be as fast as the others using PCIe slot or NVMe type. The M.2 SSDs are as small as a gum stick and are considered one of the fastest SSDs for data transfer. You can also look at SSDs for specific purposes such as gaming, running intensive applications like video editing, or simply storing large volumes of workload. By supplementing SSDs and HDDs to your overall storage, you can take advantage of expanded storage.

It is easy to install an SSD to your PC and enjoy the expanded coverage for more optimum data transfer. If you have used HDD and would like to sell it for a good value, you can reach out to us at BuySellRam.com. We offer instant quotes for all types of used and new SSD and HDD. You can invest the amount to buy a new SSD for your system.
