OPPO Find X3 Pro Review: Featuring 50MP Ultra-Wide Camera and Billion-Color Capture

2021 is the tenth year of the OPPO Find series, and OPPO Find X3 Pro will arrive as scheduled. Speaking of Find, keywords such as Leonardo, screen-off aesthetics, breathing skyline, dual-track periscope structure, etc., have flooded into our minds. We are curious about what kind of story OPPO wants to tell through Find X3 Pro this time, so We started the discovery journey with the theme of “Find”.

Design & Appearance

What do they look like? A rendering image not long ago allowed many people to discuss this issue, and finally, we also got OPPO Find X3 Pro, which can answer this question for everyone.

Looks like? The way the lenses are arranged is a bit similar. But when you pick up these two phones simultaneously, you will know that this is definitely not a product of plagiarism. The two phones have completely different temperaments, and “temperament” is the most suitable word to describe OPPO Find X3 Pro.

I don’t know when we will first look at the convexity of the camera when we get a flagship phone. To avoid being so stupid and thick, various companies have begun to try to reduce the thickness difference visually through layering. OPPO Find X3 Pro also brings a different design, using continuous curves to offset the bumps.

But wanting to make such a process is not an easy task. The smooth protrusions on the back + the slight indentation on the edge of the camera, and the arc on the edge of the back. These have no breakpoints. The entire back cover is formed in one piece; OPPO, Also named the lens part “crater” design. The integrated body not only looks very futuristic but also reduces dust problems caused by gaps.

In terms of technology, the back adopts a whole piece of glass hot forging forming technology. By drawing more than 2,000 control points and a complex hot forging process, it breaks through the limit of yield and enables a smooth curve to be realized on Find X3. It took the last 40 hours to produce such a curved glass back panel that is not possible on ordinary mobile phones.

In fact, OPPO has always been a leader in the industry in terms of technology, such as the previous AG frosted glass, electrochromic application, etc., this time it has made glass to a new level. What we have in our hands is the mirror black version. Does it look like a ceramic material? OC0 (sprayed resin liquid anti-shattering process) makes the glass have a better feel and feels silkier. Then, attach a film to achieve brightening of the appearance, combined with colour ink, to enhance the colour and texture. Also, there are matte and condensed white, fog blue and other colours.

This is why the two phones are not similar. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is extremely exquisite in appearance design. At the same time, OPPO Find X3 Pro is the most suitable mobile phone in the mobile phone market that fits my future imagination. It is simple and integrated. , Smooth, each angle has a different charm, under tension, the temperament is a restrained scholar.

Of course, the temperament of the OPPO Find X3 series is still manifested internally. This time Hans Zimmer customized a set of global ringtones for Find X3. Hans Zimmer used to act as the soundtrack for films such as Inception and The Lion King.

Have you ever discovered that the world photographed by the camera is always different from what we see? Either the gorgeous sunset becomes dim, or the clear water becomes vulgar. In the digital world, it is not only the two things of shooting and display but like a complicated but difficult-to-detect link from the eyes to the brain. OPPO released the full-link colour management system as early as November last year. On Find X3, we finally saw the landing of this technology-a full-link 10bit colour engine.

OPPO Find X3 Pro has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display that supports QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz high refresh rate that can be opened simultaneously. The newly added intelligent dynamic frame rate adjustment function can be an intelligent and non-inductive adjustment between 5Hz-120Hz, which is more economical. Electricity. The screen curvature is further reduced compared to Find X2 Pro, reducing accidental touches during use. And it was this screen that brought the first show of the full-link 10bit colour engine.

Let’s talk about colour first. The goal of pursuing colour accuracy is simple: to restore the true visual effects as much as possible. In fact, we are not unfamiliar with colour accuracy—the lower the ΔE or JNCD, the smaller the screen’s colour cast. For example, the JNCD of the Find X3 screen is approximately equal to 0.4, and the screen calibration is performed on each mobile phone before leaving the factory. DisplayMate A+ rating.

Yes, the better the colour accuracy of a screen, the more accurate colours we can see in theory. However, our current display devices are based on the RGB principle. Can the same RGB value display the same colour on different devices?

N 2016, the iPhone 7 brought the wide colour gamut into the public eye and taught everyone a lesson. To put it simply, the previous mobile devices basically used the sRGB colour space. There are so many colours that can be displayed, and there are so many wide colour gamuts; find X3 Pro supports 100% P3 wide colour gamut coverage. However, there is still a lot of sRGB content in the current network. If you directly use the P3 wide colour gamut screen to display it, the problem of excessive saturation and colour cast will occur. Therefore, we need to identify the content’s colour space and then recalibrate according to the colour gamut range of the screen. This is the first thing the full-link 10bit colour engine does.

10bit screen can display

Next, look at 10bit. 10bit colour depth, the first time I talked about this concept, it was on Find X2 Pro. Assuming that there is a blue pixel, there are only two states of on and off. If the change between on and off is continuously increased, the colour transition will become smoother and smoother. For most screens, each colour pixel has 256 variations. Multiplying the three channels of red, green and blue, we have 16.8 million colours. Since 256 is 2 to the 8th power, it is called 8-bit colour. So 10bit colour is 2 to the 10th power, with 1.07 billion colours. A screen that supports 10bit colours can display more delicate colours. Last year’s Find X2 Pro was based on 8bit screen hardware and achieved a 10bit effect through software algorithms. This year’s Find X3 Pro is a native 10bit screen.

Of course, it is not comprehensive enough to solve the display alone because the mobile phone cannot do without shooting. OPPO Find X3 Pro is equipped with the main camera, super-wide, and telephoto, all support 10bit shooting and has achieved a full adaptation of photos and videos, the specific shooting effect, we will talk about it later.

Finally, it’s time to talk about the full link. As I just said, OPPO Find X3 Pro achieves a 10bit screen display and 10bit camera shooting on the hardware, and the rest is the middle software processing link. After the image information is collected, the first difficulty comes from storage. The familiar JPEG format originally can only record 8bit images, so OPPO has set its sights on HEIF, its compression algorithm and high-efficiency video compression format (HEVC/H. 265). The same source supports up to 16bit and only needs 50% of the volume to achieve the same image quality.

Next, we need to give the picture an “ID card” (ICC Profile) to record the colour space of the picture itself for reasonable adaptation; that is, the above mentioned sRGB content is correctly displayed on the P3 colour gamut device. The native Android underlying system design only supports 8bit picture decoding, so OPPO reconstructed the native Android decoding and finally realized a solution compatible with 10bit pictures.

To sum up, the full-link 10bit colour engine allows the mobile phone to support 10bit colour from all aspects fully, so the next step is to enter the easiest link, shooting.

The image’s essence is emotional behaviour, which is the direct reason that prompts the photographer to press the shutter. This scene of pressing the shutter is often the memory that photographers most want to keep.

The photo above was taken with the main camera of Find X3 Pro. This main camera uses a Sony IMX766 sensor. We have seen this sensor on OPPO Reno5 Pro+. It has 50 million pixels, a 1/1.56 inch outsole; a single pixel area is 1.0 μm.

After a period of experience, I was very impressed with the performance of Find X3 Pro’s main camera. The overall colour is rich but not too saturated. The rich and delicate colours make all the photos full of tension and night scene effects. It’s also pretty good.

Is the perception of 10bit obvious? From the above comparison, we can see that after zooming in on the picture, there is a fault in the colour transition of the 8bit shot, while the transition of the 10bit shot is still natural.

The second lens is an ultra-wide-angle lens. It also uses a Sony IMX766 sensor. It has the same performance as the main camera. It can be seen that there is almost no chromatic aberration between the samples taken at the same position, so it is also called a dual main camera by OPPO. At the same times, Each lens is also a free-form surface lens with good distortion control.

The telephoto is not so dazzling. There is only a 2x telephoto with 13 million pixels, which supports 5x hybrid optical zoom and 20x digital zoom. It also supports 10b, it and the effect of the proofs taken is not bad, but as OPPO’s annual flagship, it is a pity that there is no periscope telephoto. The front of Find X3 Pro is a 32-megapixel lengthened in terms of video shooting, which supports shooting up in terms of video shooting to 4K 60 frames and 10bit color depth HDR video, Log can also be turned in the professional modern, which can retain more details in the picture and facilitate later color correction. In backlight shooting, the hardware-level DOL-Hdr solution can also exeritsis strength. There is also a small detail I like very much. When shooting, drag up and down in the viewfinder to automatically zoom in at a constant speed according to the extent of the drag.

Lines shape logic, and colors can also record emotions. Different color expressions will make memories fuller and make emotions contagious. In addition to the colour itself, different colour styles are also the key to expressing different emotions. Two new filters have been added to Find X3; the names are very straightforward, Jiang Wen No. 1 and Jiang Wen No. 2, the former is warm and brilliant, and the latter is full of flavour. The newly added AI colour master can also record your favourite style with one click so that the colour of a certain moment can be copied.

This feature is a bit familiar, so we also come to Samsung to compare, from left to rig, filters, OPPO Find X3 Pro simulation, and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra simulation.

Next is the last lens-microscope, 3 Megapixels, 60 times magnification, and also supports full HD video recording. Just n, ow everyone has seen it, and it is used to find that the arrangement of “Zhou Dongyu” is the most suitable. The way to use it is to directly attach the lens to what you want to take, and the dedicated flash will also light up at this time. A different world is right in front of your eyes.

BatterAnotherer change that I think is very important for Find X3 Pro is to support 30W AirVOOC wireless flash charging, battery capacity is 4500mAh, and 65W SuperVOOC wired fast charging. After a few days of use, it has better battery life than Find X2 Pro. It’s a lot better.

This year’s Find X3 doesn’t have a knack for making a big break, and the Pro version does not pursue extreme professionalism. OPPO has brought us two balanced and easy-to-use mobile phones. You can’t find one that can hang friends all the way. The configuration, there is no obvious regret. Find X3 restrained all the skills and worked hard in places where you can’t see it. Obviously, Find in the tenth year has found its own unique temperament.

Ten years ago, Leonardo started the Find journey with an OPPO phone with a full-slidable keyboard. At that time, the best Android phone in the industry was the moto Milestone. OPPO was just a newcomer and the idea of making a phone. I want everything. The conclusion is the original Find (X903) appearance, very straight and fierce, not at all like the OPPO that made the smile music phone.

Since then, OPPO has shown a completely different temperament from the era of music player, and this temperament is also gradually adjusted while exploring the latest technology of the mobile phone industry at that time, so we saw the candy bar touch screen Find3, ultra-thin metal Finder, Find5 with off-screen aesthetics, Find7 with the world’s most refined screen + VOOC flash charging + sky breathing light, Find X with stunning dual-track periscope structure, and Find X2 with 120Hz and high scores.

By the way, Find is not updated every year, but irregular, sometimes a year, sometimes a few years later. The longer the interval, the more you can see the thinking that OPPO has added to it. The name Find has also grown from being a reckless newcomer to a master of technology in OPPO and even China’s mobile phone industry.

Going back to the X3 in my hand, if the original Find is a T800 with the word “Meng” written all over the muscles, then the Find X3 Pro is the T1000 with all the technology hidden in the body. It does not seem to carry any weapons, but every part of the body can instantly become a weapon. You can’t see the presence of technology; in fact, it is scattered in every corner of X3.

In addition to visible technology, OPPO has a vision for improvement. From VOOC flash charging authorization to trying to open up full-link colours, Shenzhen manufacturers have moved from pursuing the latest hardware and the best screens to the stage of setting standards. For Chinese technology manufacturers, the latter may be more important than the mobile phone itself.
