Review of ASUS ZenPad Z300M vs CHUWI Hi10 Pro

CHUWI Hi10 Pro is a 2 in 1 ultrabook tablet PC device, equipped with a 10.1 inch display that supports for 1920 x 1200 pixels with an aspect ratio of 16:9. Besides, The CHUWI Hi10 Pro is a dual OS supporting device that allows users to take advantage of both Windows 10 and Android 5.1 (Remix OS) operating systems on the device. It is powered by fifth-generation Intel Atom Z8300 graphics and eighth-generation Intel HD graphics, coupled with 4GB of RAM. ASUS ZenPad Z300M comes with a vivid touch screen and adaptive OGS display technology that supports for 1280 x 800 pixels, this tablet brings your photos and videos to life. Quad-core processor makes it easy to navigate home screens and apps. Light sensor brings a lot of convenience for adjusting light.

    Design

The Hi10 Pro sports a full metal unibody design featuring an exquisite aluminum alloy chassis. The metallic finish gives it a premium look one would not expect from a budget device. It looks solid and the texture feels great in the hand — especially the curved edges which aid the grip — and can take casual everyday handling. The bezel on the top is quite thick. The Hi10 Pro offers a generous heaping of connectivity options, all lined up on one edge of the tablet There’s the TF card slot, USB Type-C for charging, Micro USB, Micro HDMI, and the 3.5mm headphone jack. The keyboard too includes a USB port. Chuwi has done well to pack all of these in its sleek form factor.

    01 02

The design of the current ASUS ZenPad Z300M is familiar with the Z380M. The ZenPad 10.0 Z300M is made of precisely manufactured, twist-resistant hard plastic. The tablet looks anything but cheap thanks to striking components, such as the back cover’s textile texture and metallic display bezel. The weight of 500 grams (~1.1 lb) is acceptable, and there should not be any problems when using both hands. However, holding it in one hand for a prolonged period could get rather tiring.

    Hardware

The Hi10 Pro’s 10.1-inch IPS display offers a 1920 x 1200 resolution, which is quite good for the price. The colors are vivid and text Windows looks crisp all around. The 16:10 aspect ratio makes it quite usable in the portrait mode as well, though it’s not as ideal as something that’s not quite so tall. The 350-nits display is relatively bright, and you can tweak Intel’s graphics options to crank it up even further. The sunlight legibility is not so great, and the screen is quite reflective even when the brightness is set to its maximum. The glass tablet surface is smooth, and does not feel cheap in any way. The capacitive touchscreen worked quite well, correctly identifying taps and multi-touch gestures. Powered by Intel’s 14nm X5 Series Cherry Trail CPU (up to 1.84GHz) with a generous 4GB RAM, the Hi10 Pro is able to offer enough grunt for most apps and basic games. You shouldn’t really stretch this hardware for graphic-intensive games or anything extraordinary, because then it shows its weakness. The Hi10 Pro packs in 64GB of internal storage, which can be extended up to 128GB. It’s eMMC, not SSD, mind you. Even though it’s flash storage, eMMC typically is slower than SSD and boot times and large file operations are slower.

    03 04

The IPS panel of the ASUS ZenPad Z300M has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, i.e. 149 PPI, at a screen diagonal of 10 inches. Thus, symbols and fonts on the screen are not as sharp as on the ZenPad 8.0 with the same resolution – but this does not hurt the eyes. By and large, all display-relevant specifications of the ZenPad 10.0 are within the range of those provided by the competition. Like the 8-inch ZenPad Z380M, the ZenPad 10.0 Z300M is based on MediaTek’s MT8163 V/B SoC. The quad-core processor clocks at a maximum of 1.3 GHz and is supported by the Mali-T720 MP2 graphics unit clocked at 520 MHz. Generally, a familiar picture is seen here again – as expected, the benchmark outcomes correspond almost exactly to those of the 8-inch device. Weaknesses in graphics performance counter outstanding scores in application-oriented test scenarios (PCMark, AnTuTu) focused on the overall system performance. It is simply well-balanced – it was always possible to work smoothly with our review sample in everyday use.

    Features

The Chuwi Hi 10 Pro is a dual-boot device and includes Windows 10 Home as well as Android 5.1. For a basic professional or student with a light workload – typically multi-tabbed browsing, Office apps, and some multimedia – the Hi10 Pro works quite well, and suffices without breaking a sweat. Anything more, is not what it is meant for, and that shows. Both the front and rear cameras on the Hi 10 Pro are pretty average. There’s always a little blur, and the front camera shots are usually dark. For those Skype calls, you might want to pick a well-lit spot, lest your face disappear into the darkness. Both cameras are of 2MP.

    05 06

ZenPad 10.0 runs Android 6.0 covered with the Zen user interface is up-to-date. ZenPad 10.0 offers a maximum Wi-Fi performance in the 802.11n standard and is roughly on par with the ZenPad 8.0. Asus offers its 10-inch ZenPads as both LTE and UMTS versions (Z300CNL and Z300CG). The LTE version features 32 GB of storage and Intel’s Atom Z3560 CPU, This looks rather different with the 3G version: Its performance with Intel’s Atom x3-C3230RK places it between our review sample and the LTE model. However, with only 16 GB of eMMC storage,

    Battery

The battery life on the Hi10 Pro is pretty good. The 6500mAh battery allows for about 6 to 7 hours of normal usage. While Chuwi advertises quick charging, it’s not quick enough. Using the supplied 5V/3A charger, it takes 3 to 4 hours to charge the Hi10 Pro to 100%. It’s quite nifty that the device uses USB 3.0 Type-C for charging — if you carry one of the latest smartphones you won’t need to carry a separate chargers. Also, it also charges using any of the newer power banks.

    07 08 09

Compared with the competition, the ZenPad 10.0 Z300M’s battery life is mediocre. Seen on its own, 435 minutes, i.e. roughly 7.5 hours, is not bad in the practical Wi-Fi test, as that is almost enough for a whole work day. ZenPad is equipped with a 3.7V / 4890mAh battery.

    a08 a09

    Conclusion

The Chuwi Hi10 Pro has a lot going for it. There’s the beautiful display and the stylish aluminum chassis. At $187 for the tablet, it’s a terrific deal, really. More value, than money. The performance, while only average, is what one expects at this price and with the internals it packs. That said, the Intel Cherry Trail processor and 4GB of RAM do keep it going for an average user. You can find it at Gearbest, at a very low price. And check more details if you want from Chuwi Official Website.

ASUS ZenPad Z300M screen’s visual performance is satisfactory overall. The resolution of 1280×800 pixels is basically too low for a modern 10-inch device – at least when the screen cannot serve with top contrast rates that would mask the reduced image sharpness. Asus is in arrival notice at Gearbest.
