    Your Complete Guide to different Salesforce User Licenses

    1. Standard User Licenses

    This type of Salesforce user license includes Salesforce, Knowledge-only, Identity-only, external identity, WDC Only User for Salesforce Classic, but may not be available in all the orgs. Also, edition requirements may vary for the chosen user license type, so make sure you know what edition you are having.

    Salesforce Classic Licenses

    Salesforce: If you require full access to the CRM platform and AppExchange apps, it’s the right choice for you. Also, it is available for all editions.

    Knowledge-Only User: This user license allows you to have a Knowledge Only profile that gives you access to the articles tab.

    Identity Only: With this license, you can provide your employees with the identity services such as single sign-on (SSO).

    External-identity: This user license gives you Salesforce Customer Identity that allows your customers and partners to self-register, login, update their profile, and securely access the web and mobile apps with their single identity.

    Lightning Platform Licenses

    Salesforce Platform: This will be a perfect user license for you if you want to access the custom apps but not the standard CRM functionalities. It is available for Enterprise, Unlimited, Performance, and Developer editions.

    Lightning Platform-One App: This is designed for users who want to have access to one custom app without the standard CRM functionalities. You get all the rights that you’d enjoy in the Salesforce platform license with access to an unlimited number of custom tabs.

    NOTE: This license isn’t available for new customers.

    Force.com: This license, in particular, allows you to have access to a Lightning Platform light app or Lightning Platform enterprise app. Know that CRM functionality isn’t included in this license.

    Company Community User: It allows you to have an internal license for employee communities. Also, with this license, you get access to custom apps, Salesforce Files, Chatter, and an Experience Cloud site.

    Developer: It is designed for users who need to build customizations or applications. Also, you get access to development tools and environments with this license.

    2. Chatter User Licenses

    You might know that all Salesforce licenses allow users to have free Chatter access for everyone in their organization. And, Salesforce provides you with Chatter-specific licenses such as Chatter External, Chatter Free, and Chatter Only. Chatter External is for people who are outside your organization’s email domain. Chatter Only or Chatter Plus is only for existing Chatter Plus customers. Finally, Chatter Free is for users who don’t have Salesforce licenses but have access to Chatter.

    3. Experience Cloud User Licenses

    This type of user license is particularly for external users such as ​​Customer Community, Customer Community Plus, Partner Community, External Apps, External Identity, and Channel Account. This user license is available in Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience. Also, it is available for Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and

    Developer Editions.

    4. Channel Account Licenses

    This license is available for Experience Cloud sites. Also, the feature access and permissions are the same as the Partner Community license. Channel Account license is priced per partner account. And, then, partners can open access to users.

    5. Lightning Platform Starter and Lightning Platform Plus

    Both of these licenses contain a Salesforce Platform license and a Company Communities Permission Set License. It is available in Salesforce Classic as well as Lightning. Also, you get access to this if you have Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.

    6. Service Cloud Portal User Licenses

    This license allows contacts to have unlimited logins to the Service Cloud Portal to access customer support information. If you have this license, then based on your permission settings, you can access the following:

    • Accounts
    • Assets
    • Contacts
    • Cases
    • Custom Object
    • Documents
    • Ideas and questions

    7. Site and Site.com User Licenses

    This allows you to have Guest User or Site.com Only user licenses. Guest User is specifically designed for public users that access your Site.com or Experience Cloud sites. Whereas Site.com is designed for Performance, Unlimited, and Enterprise users that want access to Site.com without the standard CRM functionality.

    8. Authenticated Website User Licenses

    This license is designed to be used with Salesforce sites. Also, your named site users can log in unlimited times to your Platform Portal to access customer support information.

    Available in Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.

    9. Customer Portal User Licenses

    If you are a user of a Customer Portal site, then you have the Customer Portal Manager Standard license. Also, this allows your contacts to log in to your customer portal to manage customer support.

    Available in Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.

    10. Partner Portal

    If you have a Partner Portal license, this means you have the Gold Partner user license, and you can only access Salesforce using the partner portal.

    Available in ​​Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.
