Syma is a very well known company for creating very good drones at low prices. After the wide success of X5 and X5C models, they have reworked those models to incorporate better range and camera. Syma X8W is result of that and there is a reason that they call it the poor mans Phantom.
Design
The Syma X8W Is a drone with 4 propellers. Thr propellers have a protection, the Propeller Guard, that protect the propeller from hits on a a wall or when falling down. It comes out in 2 colors, white and black and the both look very good! The Syma X8W is made out of ABS and comes only in orange. The dimensions of the drone are 50.2 x 50.2 x 19.1cm and weights only 1026 grams
Features
The Syma X8W features a very good 0.3MP camera that works much better from other 2MP cameras. Camera can take photos or record video at a very good quality. You can use the app that comes with the drone, to control it from your mobile or tablet easily, using the FPV feature that has because of the WiFi signal that has the drone. But careful when using the FPV feature, since there is a 1 sec delay between what you see and what happens. Other features that has are headless mode and 360 degrees eversion,
Battery
The Syma X8W has an average flight time of 8 to 10 minutes. Commonly, same price drones only have a flight time of around 7 minutes. The bad thing is that you can control it at a area of 60 to 80 meters. One could that is very good, if you compare it with the previous model X5C that had only 5-60 meters. The quadcopter contains a 7.4V 2000mah Li-Po battery. The dimensions of the battery are 8.2 x 3.3 x 1.8cm and weights 102g. You will need about 200 minutes to fully charge it, but them you will have about 10 min fly.
Conclusion
The Syma X8W is also called poor man’s Phantom. Looks alike Phantoms, plus they are almost the same in size. To be honest, this drone is one of the best devices you can get for less than $80. Normally you can find it around 75$, but we have found it at the German warehouse of TomTop at flash sales and for only 52.99$!
