Time Management: 3 Tips for Managing Tasks

0

Time management is essential in today’s world. At the 9-to-5 it’s essential to make sure that you’re on schedule for a host of tasks that might come across your desk. Did you finish reviewing today’s sales numbers? Did you complete the data entry for that client who needs it done by lunch? Are you still on track to make that late afternoon meeting with your presentation ready to go? The same task management is essential even in your personal life.

Picking up groceries, making sure the bills are paid on time, and making sure the kids get to school on time are examples of tasks that can succeed if they are properly managed. Activities can be overwhelming if there’s no sense of direction provided and often pile on top one another in an unmanageable heap unless steps are taken to better schedule, or manage these tasks. Here are a few steps on how best to manage your tasks, which is essential for proper time management in all of our lives.

1. Scheduling

Scheduling can help greatly when attempting to keep some order about your day to day activities. Schedules allow us to stay on track by the day, hour, minute, or second as we move throughout our lives. Some people enjoy a certain sense of freedom when going through their day, and feel that a schedule will keep them hemmed in. They feel that their sense of freedom will be limited, and they might be wrapped up in an hour by hour form of drudgery. Another perspective on scheduling is that with a certain sense of order with how a person’s day will be spent, allows for fewer opportunities for activities to be missed.

A schedule provides a person with the ability to manage tasks in such a way that all tasks will be tackled. If you want to complete a task, just schedule it. Scheduling can be done by paper and digitally. On the digital front this can be done on your phone, tablet, or personal computer through a variety of software programs and apps. There’s even interview scheduling software that helps employers to find the best times to interview prospective employees. Having time allotted to complete whatever a person wants allows for great time management.

2. Flexibility

Having a flexible nature can go a long way with help to better manage one’s tasks. Changes in our tasks that happen daily or even minute by minute often happen outside of our control. As a result, it’s best to try to bring some flexibility when attempting to manage such tasks. If a person stands too rigid in their daily goals, there’s a good chance that managing such tasks can fall by the wayside.

Being flexible with deadlines can sometimes help a person to achieve their goals in the long run. This gives people an opportunity to process whatever they are working on properly, and might even get them out of the rigors of the day to day activities which sometimes bog people down. In some cases, being a little flexible can help with managing tasks in a productive way.

3. OKR Software

OKR stands for “objectives and key results”. This idea is a goal-setting framework for defining and tracking objectives and the objectives which they are associated with. Okrs provide a common vocabulary and quarterly process for teams to align and articulate what they want to achieve. Secondly, such software focuses efforts on measurable outcomes, while also iteratively learning with data over time. In terms of managing time and tasks, this is key. OKR software provides a way for individuals to stay on track when attempting to manage tasks.
